Did i break a valve spring?
Driving home and i give it alot of gas and it felt like i was running out of gas. My check engine light kept on flashing and it said i think P0300? not sure, i can double check.
I did hear a ticking sound after that, the same sound the lifters make while the car is cold. I didn't obviously floor it after that but i was able to drive home going really slow.
Ideas?
Thanks!
Frank

I would say that it is a very good chance that you did. The same thing happend to me a couple of months ago. Do you have aftermarket springs, or factory?

If you have an MMS product, as I see you do, you are very likely to have trouble with the valve springs. This is no surprise, in fact it is expected. I went through this failure as well, and most everyone I have known have had this problem. Just pray that this is all that is wrong.
Definately do not drive the car again!
When mine broke, I was lucky, I was on an exit ramp, and I promply shut it down, and had it towed. It was a valve spring indeed.
Pull your valve covers off and look. It will take like 30 minutes.
I will bet that this is the problem.

Man, that looks painfully familiar. Same thing happend to me. There has got to be a cure for these damn things. I beleive MMS also uses REV valve springs like Cartek does for my X package. Anyone know who sells a better double valve spring kit that is a little more reliable?

My tuner locally uses Manley Ti springs as he has had these and the comp springs crack/break--So far not so with the manleys.

:iagree: That picture looks just like a couple of springs on my desk, sputtering like it was missing etc, finially looked and the comp 918's were shot--highly reccomend you take a look and they may still look intact but they will be cracked and will eventually fall apart--

P0300 is a misfire code, if one or more cylinders are firing then your dumping raw fuel into the exhaust and the popping sound is the fuel burning as soon as it hits the converter.

Some brands are better than others, but I do not have a good line of information on this. One thing I do know, the Mickey Mouse Springs were a disaster.

Re: Did i break a valve spring? (bruce1)
I have run a .634/.625 lift cam on mine for about 7-8k miles now. My tuner has run his racing cam (over .660lift) on these springs although he doesnt put many miles on his car.
