How To Program Key FOBs (transmitters)
Hey guys, I have 2 new transmitters for my 2001 and I need to know if I can program these to the car or do I have to go PAY the dealership. Does it have to have a TECHNET plugged into it? Any help is appreciated.

To program a remote:
Turn the key to ON and don't start the car. Press the Options button and cycle through the choices untill a blank screen comes up. Hold the Reset button down until FOB TRAINING appears. Press and hold down the lock and unlock buttons at the same time until the screen indicates it's ready to do the next fob. You can do up to three.

I just replaced the battery on mine- put the key in the ignition, hold down the lock and unlock button at the same time for 10~ seconds. The horn will beep, and you are on your way :yesnod:

Boy do I feel stupid. I paid the dealer $85 five months ago to "program" a new key and key FOB. I bought my 02 used and it only came with one key! :banghead:

My point eaxctly! Why pay the dealer for something simple we can do for free. Well, most of us can do for free. Well, everyone except me.

Re: How To Program Key FOBs (Richin Chicago)
Hey Guys,
Still no go. I tried programming the one that came with the car and my new ones and you can hold down the lock and unlock as long as you want to and nothing happens. This is in "training mode" or not. Also, when I put the key in and turn the ignition to "on" it sets the memory for the 2nd button on the door. Any reason it would do this instead of for the 1st one?

The only thing I can think is that you have the wrong fob for your car. Any chance of that? There are differences between some years... If you are trying to program the exact same remote as you had, then I would suggest a dead battery or some such in the new fob.

I thought of that as well but, it won't let me redo the one old one that works now either. You can hold lock and unlock til your blue in the face :( and no asking for next fob. Help!

hey jlynn33,
make sure your car battery is fully charged. it can affect the programming.
i don't know what else to tell you except to try again from the beginning and make sure you don't leave out any steps. it's in the owner's manual.
good luck and keep us posted.

Re: How To Program Key FOBs (jlynn33)
O.K. I finally figured out what was missing! You actually have to hit "reset" again AFTER "FOB TRAINING" appears. It then asks for first FOB. Thanks for the help guys.
