Default Need Shifter Wife can Shift - Detests Breathless

I just bought an 02 Z

Previouslty, I hated the stock shifter in my 01 Coupe and replaced it with a Ripper.

This time, I tried a Breathless.

The wife "DETESTS!!!" the BPP :cry

What shifter offers precision and a low shift effort?? I have already purchased a shortened stocker for the moment. Any other suggestions????

Did you try weaker springs in the BPP shifter?

I don't know of anything lighter on effort than the stock shifter.

I'm using the Kirban unit and am very happy with it. Precise shifting with virtually the same effort as the stock unit. Have never missed a 2nd to 3rd with this baby, which is more than I can say for the stocker.

I have the Hurst shifter and I love it!! Yes, it is a bit stiffer than the stock shifter, but it is also adjustable.

Works great for me in my '02 Z06 :yesnod:

The BPP has different springs available. Put in the softest ones.

Raise up the shift ****, or get a tall shift **** (more leverage, less effort).

If it's still not good enough, ban her from the car. The BPP is an awesome shifter.

Forget about the springs in the BPP, Ripper and such....Removing them all together is still too stiff as the centering springs in the tranny linkage is where most of the stiffness is.

The BEST compromise is a REAL shortened stocker.. Not the one where they take an inch off the top..

My Ripper was great when I 1st installed it... But it got old being in an Arm wresting match every time I wanted reverse...

So I custom shortened my stocker and LOVE it.. I am sure your wife will too.

Eric,
Kirban here. Precise, but fairly low effort. My wife's not thrilled with it, but she doesn't drive the car often enough to matter.

Try replacing the tranny flluid with a good synthetic ATF, I put in Royal Purple in mine and it really smoothed out the shifting.

I too had a ripper for over a year. Then I did the "Chuckster" short shifter. It is the perfect compromise.

Would recommend the Hurst with the light springs installed. Its somewhat adjustable.
The Kirban is the easiest to shift, but is noisier than the others.

I replacrd the stock shift **** with a hardbar (www.hardbar.net), and the oil in the tranny to Red Line. My wife, who does not notice changes to the car noticed this one and LOVES it. The stock **** is too big, and feels like it is made of form rubber. The Hardbar is taller than stock so you have more leverage for easer shifts. The shifting is much more postive.

Part of the reason she is driving the Z06 is that we sold her gas guzzling Tahoe in favor of a more efficient and less costly daily driver: 1994 Integra GSR 4 Door. She likes rolling in the deep ride on the weekends, etc.

The Chuckster mod looks very promising.

The Kirban will be tested shortly.

Try a Skunk front weighted shift ****. Probably solve the problem.

If you want to get rid of the BPP I want to be first in line. Sorry about the situation with the wife.

Thanks
James
