Battery Swap. Which Optima??
I need to change the Battery in my 2K Vert. and have decided to get an Optima Battery. I only drive the car weekends and ocassional trips. I had a high end stereo system (returned to stock)which destroyed the original battery and now if the car sits overnight it's got a 50/50 chance of starting in the a.m.
Question is Red Top (standard) or Yellow (deep cycle). Any thoughts??
Thanks in advance for your input.

I would go with the Red Top and would get the one with the most CCA. Got mine at Costco for $99, and it has been doing well for two years now. If you car sits for long periods, you might consider a Battery Tender. :)

I just checked; my Optima has 750 CCA, and the OEM had 500 CCA. As long as it will fit in the space, get as powerful a battery as you can. :yesnod: :)

Yellow top all the way.....
Its a deep cycle. Its designed to have a parsitic load on it. C5 has a lot of computers that require power.

I have a yellow top and decided to go with it when my other one died on me. Optima recommends the yellow top for those that don't drive their car every day or have big aftermarket stereo systems...I would say yellow. Red only if you don't have an aftermarket stereo system and drive it daily.

Re: Battery Swap. Which Optima?? (Vert-I-go)
I just bought a Red Top for my 2000 coupe when the positive terminal literally fell out of the Delco's battery case! I checked Optima's web site and found out that the recommended Optima was a 34/78 DT. Costco didn't have that p/n but I did find it that evening at Pep Boys for $119.00. When you consider shipping fees, that's probably about the same price as getting it through the forum. This is a 800 cold cranking amp (CCA) battery, and so far is working great (3 days).
Only had to reset my clock, but the engine computer moved oil life to 10%, down from 75%. Be sure to clean out the accumulation of battery acid under the battery and the battery terminals with water and baking soda before installing the new one.
As to which type to get, read the info at Optima's website. It turns out that the lead paste used in the Red Top battery is purer that the formula used in the yellow battery and will extend the battery's life beyond that of the deep cycle battery. The Yellow Top bettery is better if you use lots of amps and discharge the battery well beyond the 1-3% required every time you start your engine. If you car sits most of the time the suggestion of the battery tender is probably a good one.

After all the threads on here about leaking batteries etc. I finaly pulled the trigger and went with the yellow top myself. This is my third battery for this car. I am hoping it wont need replacing anytime soon.
