Default Torque converter & 3.42 gears?

I am trying to decide on my next mods and have considering a Pro Torque 2800 torque converter and a 3.42 setup (and use my predator to reprogram for new setup). I want to get the best performance for my buck (doesn't everybody :D) while not lose drivability Considering my current setup (see sig) especially since i have an A4, what do you guys think? Any recommendations, comments? Does anybody have this setup or similiar and like to share their experience?

I've had the 3.42 gears and the pro torque 2900 stall in mine for about fours years now. No significant problems... except for the need to go faster. If the 3500 stall (from whoever) was available I think it would be in my car rather than the pro torque. All in all no problems and still great on the street!

I think the 3.42 and 2800 would be great choice since driveability is a concern to you.

Make sure your Predator has the newer 1.04 software (may not be available yet). There's a minor bug with the 1.03 when changing rear gears.

Any TC and 3.42 is a good choice and will really wake up yopur car. You will evetually want more stall than you originally plan on getting, trust me on this. Think of what you want and then go up some from there. I would get at least a 3500 stall, maybe either a Yank SY3500 or a Yank SS3600 like I have :D .

You will like it. Teh 2800 still isn't a bad choice, but I promise you you will want more later. I wish I got the SS3800 since my 3600 is so tight and streetable.

The Bandit...................

I got the 3.42's and Predator with no problems, waiting for $$ to install the Yank SY3500 sitting in the garage.

Sounds like you've thought about what you want some. You really want to try to get a few rides in similarly equipped cars, maybe multiple times, paying particular attention to whether or not you might want more converter than that. There are many, many stories of folks going with increasingly aggressive converters so if you can figure out if you really want more in advance, you can short circuit that (at least a little.) Conversely, you might also confirm that you definitely don't want more converter than that.

I have 3.42's and a LPE/Yank 2800 in mine. Its kinda tight since removing the s/c. If your not into track use and getting the ultimate 60' i'd say 2800 /3000 would be perfect. :yesnod:

I have 3.73's with Pro Torque 2900 and am lovin' it! In normal driving, you wouldn't really notice it, except of course a little higher RPM (which only makes listening to the Borla Stingers more enjoyable). Get on it from a light however, and it's a totally different car than when it had the stock converter and 3.15's. This is the best mod you can make to an A4 car.

Whichever TC you go with not only will you notice a difference, but you'll be quite pleased :D As most have already mentioned, get a ride in cars with different TC's and go from there. IMHO the best for the A4 is the 3.42 and SY3500 :yesnod:

While you're at it, it would be a good idea to install a tranny cooler. Trans Go shift kit is wonderful with the A4, but you can also program your shift points with the Predator.

Onguard, give a call to Joe Jr. @ ProTorque and ask him if you can get the special 3200 stall speed unit he made for me. I had the 2800 unit with 3.15's and with 3.42 then he did the 3200 for me and what a difference !! I use my car as a daily driver (83,000 miles) and with the 3.42's and the 3200 the car ran consistent 11.7's @ 119 mph on drag radials, got 26 mpg on the highway and was a great driver. Give him a call, just say you want to get the one like Dennis has in his 98....

I had a 3000 stall from yank, with 342s. I switched to a 3500. The 3000 works good with 3.15s. I would get the 3500. I want more stall now and more gear.
