Re: Very interesting X-pipe article (CR555)
I picked up that edition of the magazine at the book store a month or two ago. Once I read the article I was sold on the product. In fact, I participated in the group purchase from LAPD and finally got to put the setup on my car last week. I'd been torn between several exhausts, but was very impressed with the amount of objective information in the article. I just wish that there were more articles of this caliber out there for all the other products available for our cars!

Granted X-pipes seem to have proven their merit, but how much $$$ is 2 HP worth????
I installed a 3" x-pipe in my car, and it was a real pita! I'm glad it is on, but I'm not sure I would do it again.

The reason I got an X pipe was not for the HP gains, but for smoothing airflow. If you do anything adding a set of headers and louder exhaust, the noise may be unbearable. I've even heard some cars have terrible nasty backfires. The X-pipe smoothes out the irregular pressures inthe exhaust, leaving it aggressive without sounding like someone is shooting clay pigeons.

Great article. I installed mine to reduce the massive amounts of popping with the GHL's and the 6-speed.

Did everyone notice the picture of the smaller hole in the H-pipe. Would opening up that hole do to the sound I wonder?

Re: Very interesting X-pipe article (VETFVER)
I'm not denying the minor benefits of an x-pipe, but this is the type of article we should all take with a grain of salt. For starters, it's more than obvious that very little science has taken place with regards to the before and after testing. The author mentions that the before db measurements we taken a year ago from a similar car. Is that also where the baseline dyno numbers came from? We don't know - the author doesn't say. If that isn't enough, the numbers published don't add up - the toque/hp numbers don't agree in some rows. If you look at the 'W/Mufflers' column and the 5,100rpm row, you'll notice 290.9 tq and 277.7 hp. These numbers don't agree - if the tq is really 290.9, then the hp should be 282.6. This isn't the only row in which this occurs - I don't have time to check all the rows, and I wouldn't know which were the correct values even if I did. All I know is that this article was slapped together and ends up looking like nothing more than a little marketing.

I've found a magnaflow universal stamped x-pipe, number 10791, that might work if you have a good welder or muffler shop that can install it. It sells for $72 at exhaustproslinc.com. On my list of things to check out in the future after I get my baseline dyno :)
If someone has tried this, I'd like to see a post
