Ummm... REMOVED my PCV oil mod........
And my car "feels" MUCH more responsive, and STRONGER...
Hate to say it, but I'm leaving it off.......
I WANT good quick throttle response, and a STRONG engine at the line, and I wasn't getting it with the mod in place, so as an experiment, I removed it.
Here's the black & white results, in lieu of the MAJOR SOTP I feel I got..
10 runs, ALL runs E/T between 12.22 & 12.27.
Lights, ALL lights were .50x, with the exception of 1 red at .480.
In the same weather, about 60-65 degrees, same humidity, 55% roughly, same DA, 550-800, after 20 runs, I had NO BETTER than a 12.30-12.40, and very sluggish lights ALL at .600 or higher.
I don't like the thought of the oil that I have been collecting in the jar going into my intake manifold, but in a few years or whenever if I get knock or denotation, I will just have to do the de-carbonization process.
My car is running too good without the mod.
Its staying out.
I am interested if anyone else has removed their oil mod & likes how their car runs without it.

Re: Ummm... REMOVED my PCV oil mod........ (C5-VERT)
I don't see how the PCV mod could be a performance hit.
I have noticed no degredation in SOTP with the mod in place.
The best test would be to do a few runs at the track, then put the PCV mod back on and do a few more runs on the same night.

Or better yet go with the Z06 valley cover/intake mod. That's what I'll be doing pretty soon. Waiting on the parts from Ken Fichtner's now.

I guess this means my car already has the LS6 valley cover so I really don't need that PCV oil mod?

LoneStar, when you refer to "later model" LS1s, what years/time frame are you referring to? I have an '01 coupe; I am under the impression this has some LS6 componentry - is it the intake manifold? It's late and I can't remember now  !!

01's have the new intake manifold, but not the new PCV setup. I've not heard if 2003 cars have it or what.

Re: Ummm... REMOVED my PCV oil mod........ (indypace78)
Indy: If you are wanting to use drag racing numbers to validate whether the PCV mod is hurting your performance, then you should show us your 60 foot times and mph, not reaction time and ET's. The reaction time is more dependant on where you stage and the driver, and the ET is definatly the driver. The MPH will much better show differences in engine performance. If your 60' times are the same and your MPH is lower, THEN you can say the PCV mod is cutting back on HP. If the PCV mod does hurt your performance, then I woud check the tune, cause something ain't right. Adding oil to the air/fuel mix shouldn't aid performance, unless you are running a two stroke  If you really are getting a big SOTP change, then check it on a dyno, it'll show it (and why, if you monitor timing and A/F).

Sorry, but I'm not buying this.. This logic makes no sense at all. Oil injestion will absolutely not help you at all. The only thing you'd gain from oil injestion is added knock, carbon build up and fouled O2's over time. There has got to be something else being overlooked in your time differences.

Re: Ummm... REMOVED my PCV oil mod........ (99blackFRC)
Well, I just put this out because I felt & saw the difference...
My 60' times were the SAME, 1.75-1.77 throughout.
MPH? with oil mod, 108-109, without all 111's.
Hey, I 'm the biggest proponent of it, but like I said, since I felt my engine was slugging at the line and throttle response was lugging, I thought I'd try without it, and presto, my engine came back to life, stronger feeling.
The R/T I listed was because with the oil mod, my car felt like it was lugging at the line. It wasn't strong, felt like it was bogging when I revved it up to 1500 rpms...hence the slow r/t times of .6xx
Without the oil mod, my car revved strong, and was very responsive, and r/t went down to consistent .5xx lights.
With the oild mod in place, I was actually leaving on the 2nd yellow light, and still getting .6xx lights.
Without it, I was leaving on the 3rd yellow & getting better .5xx lights.
Look, no argument here on the mod itself, I just wanted to post in case other guys felt the same way after they had it installed.
This was my results, I like how my car runs & feels without it..
Just wanted others to know & to see if anyone else experienced what I did..

That is a lot though for that PCV mod to detract that much from the cars trap speed. Sounds like the air filter has a bag around it or something.;):)

I removed mine also, It did work and collect oil going to the intake, but I noticed as soon as I installed it my 1/4 mile times slowed down. My thoughts was that the filter did not flow enough cfm to relive all of the crank case pressure. I guess for normal driving it's fine. John

Indy: is this the "filter inline PCV mod"? Or did you do somethng else, also? Did you plug off the opening in the throttle body and open that line to the outside air? Gotta be something else!!
