Please assess my plan for a mid 11 sec, reliable, bolt on 03 Z06
As the perfect compliment to the 600 crank HP MTI 427 Drag Machine/Weekend Warrior that i have created below as seen in my sig, i just picked up a brand new 03 mill. yellow Z06. It was to tempting not to use GM (the Generals) free money with 0% financing (which ended today). My goals for the new Z06 is for it to extremely reliable but be capable of mid 11 sec time slips with et streets when i occassionally take it down the 1/4 mile.
To achieve this i am not going to touch the internals of the awesome LS6 motor as i plan on taking many long road trips with the new Z with the wife and cannot risk broken valve springs, etc or breakin down on the highway. This car will also be my daily driver when the weather is good. Here is my plan to achieve my goals and i appreciate your feedback:
1. Air intake "Zip Tie Mod (Like JROD runs) in which the stock air box is removed allowing much more air flow into the stock air intake system &K&N Filter (I figure conservatively good for .1 tenth gain maybe .2)
2. Full length TPIS headers, Bassani x-pipe and Borla quad tip stingers (I figure conservatively good for .3 tenth gain).
3. ET streets and skinnines (I figure conservatively good for .4 tenth gain).
4. 4.10 Motive Gears professionally set up in Getrag 3.15 Housing Unit (Should yield .3 tenths gain).
5. Full dyno tuning via ls1 edit on wide band dyno (I figure conservatively good for .1 tenth gain).
Now assuming that my stock Z off the show room floor is good for 12.6 to 12.7 ets with a decent driver, then with the mods listed above and with what i believe to be conservative realistic gains anticipated (at least a full second off stock times), i figure my Z will maintain 100% reliabilty and be capable of turning consistent 11.4 to 11.8 1/4 mile times, with the mods listed above and assuming i can drive.
THanks for your feedback and assessment of my plans to achieve my goals.

That shouldn't be so difficult as a guy from Cincinnati, Danny Popp, drove a pretty much factory Z06 to a 11.7 or 11.6 at the tuner shoot-out in Bowling Green last Fall. Think all he had were long tubes and cold air intake, ET streets and skinnies and some mad drivin skilz.

I don't know if I aqree with how you break the times down,(the combination looks good to me) so the end results from the mod's you list will definatly get you the ET's your looking for, given deceant conditions and driveing. IMO Ric

[QUOTE]You already have one car that is a monster, what not leave the Z06 stock?
BECAUSE I HAVE A BAD SICKNESS! :yesnod:  I am serious, this horsepower addiction is no doubt a SICKNESS. Some of us just have the BUG bad and i fit into that EXTREMIST LS1/LS6 performance FANATIC category.
That having been said, i feel confident that a few basic performance bolts on (without touching internals of an awesome engine) is a perfect compromise of REALLY WAKING up the new Z06 without affecting reliabliltiy, etc. and without jeopardiing my warranty on engine or main drivetrain. Also, can always go back to 100% stock with my intended plan, but seriously doubt if i ever would have a need to go back to stock after making 390rwhp with bolt on and not touching the engine at all, and knocking off a second off 1/4 performance and really picking up overall acceleration of the Z in all 6 gears .

Intake, TPIS LTs, Random Tech Cats and X-Pipe combo, Underdrive pulley, ported intake (Cartek), Magnuson Charger (sp?) umm... man that would be a stock beast on slicks.. :yesnod:

I have the exact same plan for my 03 Z06. LG Long tube headers, x-pipe, borlas, cold air box, and dyno tuning. I'm pretty sure I can break 400RWHP which should be good for mid 11's on good tires.

Sounds good  - when are you planning on picking up an 03? and are you sure you dont want to sell me your LG headers at a super low price? :jester:

Given the planned mods to your 03 Z06, the power and traction to run mid-11s will be there. But actually doing that requires a lot of practice to gain the launch and shift techniques and consistency to get and keep the car hooked.
Also takes the right track conditions.
Might also add that running *consistent* mid-11s is harder than running *a best of* mid-11s.
My 02 Z06 with an air intake runs consistent 11.7s on drag radials, when the density altitude is less than 2000 feet, on a well-prepped track. When the conditions are better and I get the launch and shift-points "just right," I see 11.6s and some 11.5s. I've put some of those runs in my signature.
I'm doing that with 363 rwhp (SAE), 25-35 less than you are projecting. So your goal definitely can be achieved...with practice...on a well prepped track.
Good luck in your quest and let us know how it goes.

1. Blackwing
2. LGM headers
3. Random Tech x-pipe with cats (their cats flow ~ 35% more than stock)
4. GHL exhaust.....no drone on interstate cruises.
5. Dyno tune
6. et's
7. Mix carefully and burnout at 150 F

Sorry to hijack the thread. Sounds likes we have similiar goals for our cars so I will let you know in the coming weeks how I make out with the LG Long Tube headers and the Halltech TRAP I ordered.

Re: Please assess my plan for a mid 11 sec, reliable, bolt on 03 Z06 (Godspeed)
Does anyone know of someone who has simply added LS6 heads/cam to his LS1? I have the same fear of going aftermarket and dealing with broken springs or tuning issues. My dealer said he would install LS6 parts for me and keep the LS1 car under warranty. I already have TPIS headers, RM twin flow intake and 3.73 gears. If I did go with the LS6 parts, can I assume I could get my LS1 to the same 11.5 - 12.0 et?
Thanks

For me personally, I would go with the LGMs over the TPIS if cost was no object. I think there is more HP and torque with them.

Re: Please assess my plan for a mid 11 sec, reliable, bolt on 03 Z06 (J-Rod)
COST is certainly an object and therefore since the the motor is going to stay stock, i wouldn't think the extra $ would be worth the slight gains. I agree with you JROD if $ was not a concern it would be LGM all the way over TPIS.
GODSPEED, so i can make an informed decision IM me with the best price you can get me on the LGM longtubes.
THanks,

Halltech intake :D I would not run down the track with an open air intake.
Tires
MANY trips down the track or street or whatever to get the driving skills.:steering:
I think that is all you need.
If you went with headers I would go with the LGM.
it will mainly be all in the driving, besides getting a lil more breathing.
