Default G5X-2 first track times 11.18@124 and 11.14@122.28, cam only, stock heads

This is the same G5X-2 package that we are putting in the C5 with great results. This is the same cam that got 463.9 rwhp on a 02, Z06

The car that ran this time in Texas is an LS1 with Stock Heads, never removed from the car, and in a 6 speed car. The car with a cam only dynoed 404rwhp, 384rwtq. This car is an fbody, but It is the first cam only G5X-2 that has hit the track.
The C5's that we have with the package have not made it to the track yet.

The driver is Alan Roskos, and he is a very good driver.

The DA was + 800 to 1034 feet for the runs. The race weight was 3350.

Thanks,

1.5' 60 foots? I'd say he is a good driver.. What other mods are on the car at the current time? If you dont mind me asking.

Yes he is a good driver. He has headers, "X" pipe, ported TB, No air cond belt, ram air, Et slicks, Skinneys, Ram clutch, 9" rear end.

Still a daily driver,

And I think that is it.

I may loan him a set of LG ls6 heads and give him another 60rwhp to see what he can do with that!

The impressive part is that the Density altitude was bad (+800 to 1034) for the runs.

I will try to post up links to videos of the runs.

Thanks

Hey Lou,

Great times,

BTW with the mods I have now will G5X-2 go in my car without additional parts?

What about daily drivablity, or is this cam mostly a weekend monster.

Thanks

Very impressive.

Did LG tune this car? Do you recommend the same cam in an LS6 (with stock lifters)? Does this cam need a spring change? Any loss in low RPM torque? Good vacuum & idle? Any emissions or smog check related problems? Is this cam degreed or installed "straight-up"? Can I purchase this grind "over-the-counter"?

I've got the itch :D

:iagree: You read my mind.

What is the price of this cam, and what else is going to be need to make it last(springs etc)?

Lou, do you know any of his previous times to compare to just before the cam change (assuming all other mods were the same)?

Was this at Ennis?

124MPH?!@# Was this at TAD or something?

Either way, good times. That is one insane mph for a stock headed car.

Great times, but comparing time slips from an F body to a C5 is like comparing apples to oranges. Just my .02

After having both in my driveway for a very long time, I have to very strongly agree. If anything the MPH in a C5 is usually a little higher than on an F-body due to weight. I don't know ragemans raceweight, but the bottom line is an LS1 in a heavy car (weighs at least what a c5 does I'd guess depending on what he's removed) ran those times.

For et, sure, launching is a bit different......but not THAT big of a deal. I don't see SW complaining when he runs his 9's. F-bodys and Ybodies are maybe tangerenes to oranges, at most, in this respect. Thats my 3 cents.

Impressive...but this car was running 11.50's on the completely stock motor so it gives absolutely no true indication what it'd do for a C5. 4.56's and slicks don't do guys like me a whole lotta good unfortunately.

Wish I could see what this cam was worth to a bolt on Z06 or C5 running street tires..

I get faster trap speeds at RCR than I do at TAD.

Did you ever try to improve from 11.59 to an 11.14? It is not that easy.

The dyno numbers on our dyno went from 336rwhp to 404rwhp, and the times went down by .5 seconds. It is the before and after that matters.

I did not post this to compare any particular car to another, I posted this to point out and to highlight the gains that our G5X-2 cam only package can do for a stock engine. It is still an LS1 engine pulling 3350 lbs down the 1/4mile in 11.14 seconds. Force=mass x acceleration, where Force=HP
And all that with 1034 Density Altitude.

Pretty dam impressive if Ido say so myself. This is as fast as most cam and head cars.

We have another G5X-2 Cam and head car with an A4 that will hit the track in the next couple of days. it dynoed 435rwhp 404rwtq . Should be in the high 10's no problem.

We felt that we had to get at least some kind of 1/4 mile time with a car that is about 100 lb heavier than a FRC for it to have any meaning.

For sure there are differences in a C5 and Fbody, but not as much as one would think. A C5 is more areo dynamic, and a FRC/Z06 is usually lighter.

Thanks,

And I hope this stimulates healthy discussion.

LG,
I'm not doubting that this car in combination with your cam put out huge numbers on the dyno AND at the track. And for that congratulations are in order.

But for everyday drivers that are looking for extra power without going crazy, it's hard to compare what this F-Bod that definitely appears to be tailor made for the strip(4.56's, slicks, etc) has gained from the cam to a bolt on car like my own when looking for a new piece. I can't even imagine hitting
11.50's in my car, so I have no frame of reference.

I'm just saying that with all the heavy interest in C5 Cam only applications lately, it'd be really nice to see what a garden variety street tired, 3.42 car could gain with this. With all the varying head and cam one upmanship going on lately it's getting crazy to tell what's what :crazy I was definitely not insinuating this car with your cam weren't performing out of this world...

Here is the before and after graph. for this car. Only change is a G5X-2, a ram clutch and tuning by LGM/Godspeed. Through Headers, "X" pipe and mufflers, which did not change before and after.

thanks,

LG

Very impressive Lou,

Thanks for posting the information.

I don't care that it is an Fbody, or that it is set up for Drag Racing. What I like is the before and after. That shows the potential.

Thanks,
Jason
