01 C5 DTC Codes 1282,1284,1285,1287,1288,1296
Ok so we have a customers car here that has been throwing 6 codes. We have replaced PCM, BCM, EBCM, RF Bearing, SWPS and YAW Sensor. We have swapped out literally every electronic component trying to narrow it down. We cleaned all grounds, checked all fuses etc. You can clear the codes and they all bounce right back. All wiring is clean and have not seen any signs of rodent damage. What am i missing here? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Marc, your shop sure fired that parts canon at this one !!…have you looked at a wiring diagram yet ??…if you look at the ABS schematic you’ll see that pin 27 (gray wire) is the 5 volt reference for the steering wheel position sensor…that same 5 volts reference feeds the brake fluid pressure sensor (C1296), Lateral Accelerometer (C1284/1285), Yaw Rate sensor (C1282)…the Steering Wheel Position sensors DTC’s would be the C1287/1288…the Low Reference (ground) for all 3 is pin 13 (orange/black) at the EBCM…test light or old headlight bulb best for checking those grounds…I’d check that 5 volt ref (S108…splice 108 would be a good place to check !!) and the ref ground…if your shop uses a scope…do you ???…. I’d throw that on the 5 volt ref is this is something intermittent…being you’re a shop my diagnostic fee for you is $125.00 per hour…free for members…will that be cash or card…LOL !!…good luck !!…that’s the only thing I can see with all those DTC’s being set…did you look at live data for these sensors ??…and let us know what you find…anytime you see multiple DTC’s like this you always want to check if there is anything common between all of them…the 5 volt ref maybe being this one.

Ok we finally had a chance to get back on this car today. We tapped into the wire behind the 27 pin at the ebcm. We can clear the codes and there is a 5 volt reference, as soon as the codes all come back it turns to a ground.

The 5 volt reference really doesn’t turn to a ground but what’s happening is that 5 volt ref is being shorted to ground most likely in one of the sensors…your Techs are going to have to disconnect each of those 4 sensors and one of those sensors is “taking out” that 5 volt reference…tap into that gray wire and just start disconnecting each sensor until you can see 5 volts…if I was near your shop I’d be right over !!
