Added another RPO to my ZO6 that it did'nt come with!
Hello,
A few people may remember my post a few months ago about me using a GM TECH2 to turn on the automatic headlamps at night feature on my ZO6's body control module. The car already has the feature built in but was not "turned on" for whatever reason by GM.
A few weeks ago I got a flat tire on my ZO6 and I did'nt notice it until I went around a corner and it slid a little bit. I was upset because the car did'nt give any indication of the tire being that low. I mean.....I did'nt hear the tire getting louder or notice a harsher ride. Well this weekend with the help of a friend who loaned me his rims off his 02 vert I found the solution! Out the TECH2 came again and back into the body control modules options I went hunting. I found the option for tire pressure monitoring and turned it on. I shut the car off and turned it back on and there was the tire pressure settings in the DIC. I borrowed the rims/tires off a friends car and slapped them on (ZO6 looks wierd with them). I went into options and found the tire training mode and took a magnet to each wheel and learned the sensors. I drove up and down the street and above 5MPH BAM the tire pressure registered on the DIC. Man I was thrilled! So i'm off to find some sensors of my own to add a little bit of safety to my car.
It gets better! His friend had Bilstien shocks sitting in his garage for months because he had F45 suspension and forgot to get the suspension simulators. Since they where a gift and money was tight ($200.00 for the simulators) he held off. We had him drive over and he to got the TECH2 treatment. I went into the BCM and turned off the F45 suspension option and had him take the car out. No reduced engine power or anything. Then we all took a corner of the car and started disconnecting the shocks from the wiring harness. Again he went out and got no error codes or reduced engine power mode. We are leaving them off for a week just to make sure but I think he's set!
So my recommendation for F45 owners is to try and get a nice Tech at the Chevy dealer to turn it off. Even if he does'nt do it for free and charges you the standard hours labor its still cheaper then the $200.00 people want for the simulators. Sorry if I make any enemys from the vendors by telling you this :D . If you feel bad about it you can always paypal me the $200.00 j/k.
I know GM said that "If it did'nt add to the performance of the vehicle, it was'nt offered as a option" about the ZO6 but the automatic headlamp feature obviously does'nt add any wieght since the sensor is already in the dash. As for the tire pressure monitoring system, I don't think any measureable data could ever be reproduced saying the 3-4oz the sensors add to each wheel offset the safety factor.

Can you post, or email me some detailed instructions? I already ordered my sensors from Fitchner! :smash:

WOW  !!!! You really know your poopie about C5"s. I only hope that I can be as savey as that on my "Z" one day. Could you post an article in the Tech Topics with some detailed procedures on what you need to do this and how to do it. This tire pressure monitor is something that I have missed from day "ONE" on the purchase of the "Z". How much is a Tech2 any way??

Along the same lines, couldn't the trans temp display be turned on as well?
Now we need some local Tech2 expertise.

OK I spent about an hour taking pictures and writing up exactly what needs to be done. This is kind of an idiots guide to doing it so it has lots of pictures :).

I don't see the trans temp sensor as an RPO since its actually considered standard equipment on the A4. I don't have any books but I would track down exactly where its plugged into and try and wire one in. My guess is if it see's a signal it may display it.
