Default What is the Go-To hub for C5 replacements these days?

I will be replacing my axles soon due to the boots being shot and splooging grease all over the insides of my rear wheels, and I figure "why not replace the hubs, too?"

Detroit Axle has a PAIR of these things for like $90 on Rock Auto. Moog has one for $134 on Amazon.

What are you kids doing these days to replace these parts? Any reason to spend a pile of cash on this replacement?

Detroit Axle is trash.
Timken is a solid choice.
I am running Moog on my daily driver 04 Z06 and so far have been happy. Sadly they are made in China but carry a 3 year warranty on them, so I gave it a shot.
SKF would be another good choice.

I'm concerned about buying phony-baloney, China-Inc.-stink, bogus copies of valid products. I want to buy the Timkins, but look at this ad on eBay.

Sorry, Android is refusing the hotlinking popup.

There's a lot of phony Timken stuff out there. If the price seems to good to be true, especially on ebay or amazon, there's a reason. Generally speaking you can trust major distributors like Rockauto or your local parts stores.

Amazon is covered up with knock offs in OEM looking packages. I would order bearings from Summit or Rock Auto so you have recourse.

Axles are another story. Rebuilt ones don’t have the high speed boots. The OEM boots were rated above the speed a Corvette can go. GM used to sell rebuild kits that included this. If you are thinking of tracking your car, I would run ones from a salvage company like Dino’s, Vette Pros etc.

If you track your car, there is only one solution for both axle boots and bearings.

The only bearings that will last on track are the SKF HD X-Tracker bearings, but they are about $430 ea. Will last a long time though.

Any axle from RockAtuo or local part stores will work, but as mentioned the boots are the weak point. I have ripped OE boots at speed on track (probably more of and age thing really). The Drive Shaft Shop in NC sells axle boots for 5th gen camaros that will work on C5 axles. They are shorter so they expand less at speed, and are a better material than off the shelf boots. They do not list them on their site, but if you call and ask for the camaro boot kit they can send you a set of inner and outer boots.

here's what he's talking about, in a worse case the boot balloons and takes out the rear brake line.

Aftermarket boot

Factory boot, the more pleats make it stronger

Thats exactly what happened the second time. The first time the outer boot burst and threw grease everywhere. I cleaned it up and just threw a part store axle in it to make it to the next event. Then the inner boot swelled up on the replacement and wrapped the brake line around the axle. I then rebuilt the new axle with the camaro boots from DSS and its been fine ever since. I also leave the small clamps off the boot so it can burp heat out and not swell as much,

Gforce axles are a bit expensive but rated like 1k hp cost about 15 to 1800 a pair

Default Hubs and Shafts are IN!

Checked with World Bearing Software - authentic, made at the Korean plant. Looks like it is a finely manufactured piece!
The shafts are newly-manufactured GSP units, and seem quite up to the task.

Seems like quite the piece for not a lot of money.
