NJ is a little bitch just like the governor. You might have a set of headers with no air injection ports. Biggest thing you can do right now is get it tuned and they might even be able to set all the monitors to ready.

Good luck with getting your C5 to pass emissions and get registered.

Just took mine Thursday and not ready because battery disconnected (used my scanner for another car to check ready status near emissions testing shop), went back Friday it passed and paid online to reregister car, then had to hurry to get to work.

Does your corvette have any aftermarket parts?

Does your car have any aftermarket parts such as an exhaust, headers, or a cam?

Just Borla Stinger cat back put on in December, other than that it's factory engine/exhaust manifolds no cam.

I'm sure ECS there in New Jersey would be a really good choice to help you, I'm way out in Phoenix, AZ area and have heard good things about them, and have thought about sending them my ECM engine control module for a performance mail order tune if/when I add headers, LS6 intake, and possibly cam upgrade.

Not sure if mail order tune is possible with cam upgrade or not, maybe just headers, intake manifold, cold air intake etc.

Give Doug at ECS a call, I am sure they will have a tune close enough for you with the mods you plan to do. They have done hundreds of cars like yours.

Does EFILive offer a way to tick boxes as completed so you can clear any CELs in the parking lot and pass?

Nick - I have a 2000 FRC, aTech-2, and live in East Windsor.

I have been through inspection with success - they did put a "mirror on a stick" and look underneath to make sure the cats were there.

My last inspection I paid for - as I now have tinted windows and didn't want to be flunked for that....

@Nick_Vergara Having these guys take a look at your car is a very good idea. Start with a "street tune" and let them do their magic. I started out with this - and later did a dyno tune after some additional mods.

Just an FYI Jack, they won't fail you for tinted windows anymore, or bald tires, cracked windshield etc. All they check is system readiness and a visual on cats.

I still have nightmares from my old 4runner - everyone told me “They won’t flunk you for tint” - I went through they flunked me for tint - and it cost me more to have it taken out than it did to put it in. I figure it’s $75 well spent. But that’s just me....

The windows on our C5 are tinted pretty dark. When I go to inspection the top and windows are down (Convertible obviously). But, just in case they want to be ball-busters, my wife has a get out of jail free card which we renew every 5 or 7 years with the state, her eye doctor gave her a letter which states for medical reasons she has to have dark tinted windows, seriously, it is legit!

A tuner should be able to get the car to pass the smog test, Good luck
It looks like if the factory part is not available you can use a replacement catalytic converter. The pup cats are no longer available from GM. So NJ allows a waiver for replacement Cats. Don't know if you can convince them but many C5's in NJ have headers and pass emissions. The attached document has some interesting information on this. It may be worth a shot before you remove the headers.

Do you have a check engine light? It seems very unlikely that many monitors aren't switching to ready without codes and turning the light on unless someone did some hack tuning on it. I'm kind of guessing, but with that number of monitors not going ready you are likely missing the rear O2 sensors and the AIR system pipes were not connected to the headers. I don't know what would be up with the EVAP system because an aftermarket exhaust doesn't mess with that, but it could be a leaking gas cap or someone broke the plumbing on the engine when working on it.

No. You can't set the monitors to ready and if you just clear the codes that clears the monitors too which requires driving to set them ready again. However, if you turn off all the codes for the system that is not switching to ready then that system will be ready immediately.
