2003 Zo6 C5: MPH Needle stuck past 200mph after replacing battery
Hello,
I swapped out my battery and when I started the car up the speedometer needle went past 200mph and is stuck. The heads up display works and reports back the correct mph. I have tried disconnecting the battery for (10+ mins) and reconnecting hopping it would reset the computer - no luck. I have driven on this for a month or so, and it isn't fixing itself by just popping back into range.
Any tips or suggestions greatly appreciated!
thanks!

I had this happen in my 2000 Camaro. I had to take the cluster out, turn it upside down, and some gentle shaking let gravity swing the needle back around to the normal resting position then reinstalled. Never had the issue again. Not a technical answer and not sure why it stayed over until I got it back over to the normal position, but it worked just fine after. Other issue is you should disconnect battery while you do this(or at least I did), so could short and shoot back over while you hook battery back up after.
Maybe someone else will have an explanation and easier fix.

Sound like you need a replacement stepper motor for your speedometer. Mine was dead after winter storage, when I installed my battery. I took everything apart to fix it but I found none of gm or aftermarket parts work. Only replacement is to get a used one. I just installed a used instrument cluster and swapped out the main pcb to keep my odometer numbers right. You don’t need to remove the dash to remove the Instrument cluster just raise it high enough.
