Default Where to buy high output alternator?

I'd love to find a 150amp or higher alternator with a black finish (if possible) for less than $300... am I dreaming?

Mechman doesn't seem to have anything for C5s anymore?

I've spent all night searching threads, but they are all old and whenever I follow a link, the page is no longer there.

mechman absolutely has alternators for the c5 but not for $300 or less... contact Bret (blownbluez06) and he can get you fixed up

I can't find anything on their website. For Corvettes it has C4s and C6s but nothing for C5s.

I'll have to PM Bret and see I guess...

I'm shopping for a high output alternator for my C5, too. I stumbled across this site: http://nationsautoelectric.com/highamp-corvette.html
Anyone care to comment on it?

In the meantime, I went to Mechman's website. While their website's automated search/find feature does not show them carrying alternators for the C5, I did find alternators by looking in their pdf Application Guide (their catalog). That guide says Mechman has both the "stock" 170 amp alternators and also upgraded 240 amp alternators. Note 2 (in the right-most column) says that alternators can be special ordered in black satin for $25. So it sounds to me that this catalog may have the alternator that you (and me, too) are looking for.

I still need to contact them as I understand that alternators for the A4 automatic transmission C5s are slightly different from those for manual transmission C5s. This is important to me as I have an A4 (fused L-3-4-5 vertebrae don't let me stomp the clutch).

They started putting a decoupler alternator pulley on the auto cars.
(That's the kind that has a one way bearing in it.)
Apparently there was some vibration with a standard pulley when you put the autos in gear.

I see there where they have them listed in the PDF catalog. Thank you.
The pricing also says that it's valid until the end of 2017... so...
I'll probably have to wait until I hear from Bret.
...and I probably don't want to spend $600+ on an alternator.

There has been feedback over the years that the Mechman cause charging system faults. There are ways around that, disable alternator control in the PCM and switch the alternator "old school" from the ignition switch.
