Default Looking for a Good A4 Cam Upgrade

My son and I are planning on installing a cam in his 99 T/A LS 1 A4 car this winter. Wondering about which one to buy to retain streetability, dependability, and yet pick up some good Hp and torque? The car also has a TNT 150 wet shot on it now. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Give the Vettedoctors a call they put a cam in forum member "Redgar's" car and he is running 11.6s N/A with STOCK HEADS and bolt on's(see the Drag Racing forum). Their # is 631-841-0779.

Hi Dave. If you want a cam that gives great low end power and good top end charge. I have the cam for you and cheap!!!. Here are the numbers: 114 222 228 541 548. I made 370rwhp and 360rwtq w/LS6 intake and unported heads. It also worked great w/NOS...482rwhp 526rwtq. No yoke...the cam was in the car for almost 1k miles. I am steppping up to a more radical set-up (Stage IV heads and Cam). If you're interested, I'll sell to you for $150.00.

There are certain cams that go better with nitrous.
Ask on http://www.ls1.com and you will get more answers as well.

I think a 114LSA is suggested for nitrous though.

FWIW..You better think about beefing up that 4L60E transmission while your at it. :yesnod: When you start building power like that you will inevitably "toast" the transmission..I'ts a given that the stock trans will not stand up to the extra H.P. and torque...at the very least invest and install in a Transgo shift kit..I'm telling you this because I've been there and so have many of the CF members..Just my ...02:D

More about the Transgo shift kit..http://www.txchange.com/transgo.htm and on my home page..Good Luck!

Yes I know what you mean about the tranny. He toasted one last August street racing bikes! I asked him wtf? He said he was suprising most of them because with NOS he was gettin them. :yesnod: Shifting with a 150 shot took out 2nd gear. :( He should be here in a few hours and i'll let hin knowabout the cam! What tires are you using to hook up? I can literally roast em till I'm sideways at 40 mph kickdown. Not good for winnin races.

Hey, I am also interested in a CAM. I had no idea that changing the CAM without also substituting the heads would give so much HP?

Right now, the only mods I have made is:
Blackwing, Vortex Powerduct, Magnaflow exhaust and x-pipe. Any suggestions on a CAM setup? Also, what would it cost to get it installed? Any idea on HP numbers?

oh, yeah I have an A4, 2.73 gears. I am planning to upgrade to 3.42 gears w/ new torque converter next summer.

Dave 00C5:

Congrats on the new LPE supercharger you have an awesome set up! As far as tires you now need the best sticky everyday tire is the BFG KD (295/35/18) which will fit on your stock rim, not to be confused with the BFG KDW.

At the strip you will need et streets for ultimate hook up or at least, 315/35/17 BFG Drag Radials on ZR1 rims or another rim that 17x11.

Best of Luck,

I am going with a baby cam. 216/220 .530 .535 lift 114. Speedworks is doing the install today. My car make 325 rwhp before they said 360ish after. I am also getting a ud pulley. They said they will not have to raise my idle with this cam. We will see.

I will post the results tonight!
