wheel hop how to eliminate??
Have severe wheel hop during spirited launches, 1-2 shift and even some bounces in 3rd. However not just a launch thing, also occurs during rolling 20mph hit. Is this common for 6spds, if so how do you eliminate??? thanks.

I have the same problem! :mad
the runflats have a very hard sidewall.
I have heard that different tires should solve the problem.

Obviously, both driver and car come into play here, but I think it is mainly the tires. When I got new tires (old were OEM Goodyears), "HOP" was no longer a problem. :smash: :yesnod: :)

I only ever got a very little bit of wheelhop with the runcraps both before and after lowering.
Now I have the Nitto 555's and I've never had any wheelhop.
Car is a 6 speed.
I used to have wheelhop pretty bad in my 97 camaro, though, so I know exactly what you're talking about.
What kind of suspension you guys have? Are the cars lowered?

Well one thing that will fix the problem is coil overs but if you don't want to invenst in that then get rid of the run flat's that will help out quite a bit. Unless you did like I did and went to 19's then the wheel hop comes back hard.

the cheapest remedy I have found is to simply replace the rear shocks with the HAL adjustable shocks. That way you have the capability of adjusting your suspension from firm to loose. I have found nothing that eliminates wheel hop completely as it is a combination of tires, suspension, weight transfer and aggressiveness with the clutch. I replaced all my shocks with HALs, but if I were to do it again, I would have just gone with the rears and kept the fronts stock.

I get it occasionally, but even on run-flats I found that how you drop the clutch makes a big difference. Try to feather the clutch just slightly, instead of "banging" it home. On both my previous 01 coupe, and my new vert I find that I don't get much wheel hop buy doing this. I took it out today in the coolest weather we have had ( about 68 degrees), and I nailed it while rolling in first gear about three times. Lit the tires up pretty good with zero wheel hop.

Re: wheel hop how to eliminate?? (jschindler)
I was running an Autocross Driving School a couple of years ago and discovered that I had less wheel hop when the tires were cool vs warm. I had set up a start/stop exercise to give drivers a feel for how fast their car could start and stop. As I took my car through the exercise several times I noticed the wheel hop went from nothing on the first run to a heavy banging on the 3rd. There was a light rain at the time and I can remember getting out of the car and looking at the rear tires steaming. I was using 2200 rpm as a launch rpm since anymore than that leaves me sitting still with the tires spinning.

Randy,
This is totally of the subject, but.... Do you have any pics showing your Fiske rims? How hard are they to clean?
Thanks,
JT
