Drag radials on a C5 - what's best?
Alright, so I'm running a small nitrous shot, but my 60' times suck because I can't hook up worth a damn with these Kumho ECSTA Supra 712's on the 'vette.
Two things:
First, can I go wider than a 275 on the stock 18x9.5 wheels? If yes, how wide?
Second, what is the best drag radial you guys have used on a Corvette C5? Wet drivability is not a concern, just HOOKING UP.
Thanks :)

If you want the ultimate hook go with MT ET Streets!
BFG's drag radials are also very good.

He is running 275-40-17 Nitto D/Rs, I am running the same on stock front y2k wheels. The nittos last a lot longer but the bfgs hook better

The Nitto 555R is available in a 305/35R18 now.
Of course, I could use my stock set of front Corvette wheels as rear wheels with drag tires, I suppose. I use the GM magnesiums as my daily driver wheels. My stock 97-99 'vette wheels are just sitting in the garage collecting dust.

Depends on your tracks, they hook pretty crappy in this area. I tried nittos once and that wasnt the answer (1.827 60' best), put a new set of BFG drag radials on and went 1.726 the next week. If track prep is good the nittos work fine, on marginal tracks the BFGs work well. ET streets are the best and you can drive with them as long as you remember they are back there, but you will need to find some 16" wheels that will fit.
Nittos will last a lot longer then BFGs though..

vstella,
Yes, I found them at Discount Tire Direct.
Here's a link directly to the tire: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/dt...e=TIRE&index=1
Notice the 305/35R18 for $240 each. That includes shipping. Kinda high, but hell, if they'll run on stock 18's that's worth paying for. I don't want to roll around on mismatched wheels.
On a Corvette running 18x9.5 in the rear, the 305 series is a wee bit wide, but it should still fit without being unsafe - er, at least that's what my friends are telling me

Can you drive the car with these on? Meaning, what is the max distance you would drive witht he ET streets on the car so you don't have to change them at the track? If you want the ultimate hook go with MT ET Streets!

I found out the hard way.
They also handle like a barrell full of monkeys on the street.
I load up my et streets (in trash bags), a jack, wrenches, carpet strips and wood blocks with room to spare in the FRC.
Saves a lot of wear and tear on the tires. :yesnod:

Re: Drag radials on a C5 - what's best? (Corvette4ever)
I know some guys that have them on trucks. They are 305/45/18, not 305/35/18. I would think, just by looking at them, that they would be a bit big for a Vette. :(

You should be able to find them by doing this:
- go to http://www.discounttiredirect.com
- click on tires
- choose "by type"
- choose "competition" under the passenger/performance section
- choose the Nitto 555R
When I looked last, the only 18" size available was 305/35R18.

I found a set of chromed 275/40/17's with BFG's on them in the 'For Sale' section for only $250 for the set. I'm ready to buy new BFG's, but it does pay to shop around!!!!!!!!!!

BFG all the way, I have tried both! The nittos you have to get really hot for them to work, and once worn down, they don't hook as well anymore.
With the BFGs, only a small burnout needed, 16PSI = dead hooking like I have never done with the Nittos before. Also, these, like wine, get better with age :D
Nitto does make the DR in 18s now, unless what I saw somewhere a few weeks ago was a mistake. Just get an extra set of front 17" rims and BFGs!
