2002 Z06 erratic oil pressure
Replaced the oil pressure sending unit 6 months ago. Added the manual gauge under the hood. Driving today and the “service engine soon” indicator came on at a stop light. Oil pressure dropped to zero, then immediately bounced over 40. Climbed to 80. Then fell to 20. Then normal while driving. Basically it’s all over the place. I couldn’t jump out fast enough to check the manual gauge under the hood. No odd noises or smells. Other temperatures stayed normal.
Can a failing pump jump the pressure around that fast? I’m assuming it’s another bad sensor. Glad I relocated it.
Thoughts?

Yes, I'd bet on the sensor. If the pump went... you know it. Any time you have an analog gauge jumping about, you can guess that the sending unit is wonky.
Now, with the needle jumping I bet you have a loose wire as the sending unit is being grounded/un grounded in rapid susseccion. If your wires are clean/secure, swap the sending unit.

Can’t believe it failed again after only 6 months. But I’m glad I relocated it to make the change easy.
Ill take a look at the connection and see if there are issues there.
I just didnt want to overlook the possibility of a failing pump.
Pressure was good for a 2 hour highway drive just before this started happening.

It was whatever brand comes with the relocation kit and manual gauge offered by TPE, I believe. I have no problem springing for a Delco unit. I just hope that the rest of the kit lasts longer than the sender.
