Default Do I Nedd a Tranny Cooler with a Y3000???

Topic says it all. I'm getting ready to put the 3.15 in (at last the 2.73's are going :U) with a Yank 3000 converter and didn't know if I need a tranny cooler oni it. I know it wouldn't hurt and probably is more of a necessity with the more radical TC like SY3500's but didn't know about this TC.

Using a synthetic ATF wouldn't be a bad idea either.

:nono: Do NOT, I repeat do NOT use a synthetic ATF fluid! Yank does NOT recommend it!

As with anything you read here on the forum, do not take it as gospel....
Do research, ask around, etc....

But, trust me on this, NO SYN in the tranny!!!

Yes Ellis, is correct Syn fluids are too slippery for the clutches in the 4l60e. This transmission need some friction to function properly.

You don't need one but it is cheap insurance.

Yes, very simple do it yourself installation. Cut out shroud under tranny cooler to allow for air flow.

Hey Mike,
Glad to see you are ready to install the TC. As far as the cooler goes, like what was said previously, it is cheap insurance. The biggest enemy of the A4 is heat, so the less the better. Keep us posted on your results. Also like Ellis mentioned do NOT use synthetic trans fluid. Good luck!

Mike :)

I currently have the Yank 3200 with 315 gears. The converter is great. I've pulled some 1.74 60ft times with this setup. I don't have a trans. cooler. When I talked to Yank, they informed me that I did not need one. So I didn't. This last summer, the trans. temp. reached 208 at it's max. I've mean to the drag strip several times with it and I've had no problems at all. I did have the trans. serviced when I installed the converter. As for me, I will put one on but it might be a while. ( other mods first ) Hope this helps! :D

Well if Yank doesn't recommend using a synthetic ATF that is DEXTRON III approved then I wouldn't use it. They should know what is good for their converters. For me the benefits of a quality synthetic ATF that is DEXTRON III approved means that I wouldn't use a Yank converter.
