Default uneven brake pad wear

looked at the front brake pads on my 2000 C5....pads on the outside are hardly worn but on the inside they are just about gone.....why the uneven wear....don't recall the pads wearing like this before..

Sticking caliper may be one reason.

Thats the step that's usually not done. Think we need to see a pic....may need a new rotor and pad, now.

Like already said, sticking caliper pins. Get a new rotor and pads and take the entire caliper off and lubricate the slides and if there are any burrs in the slide from rust make sure you smooth them out. You might need anew rotor due to the uneven wear form the sticking which will make the new pads wear unevenly as well. If they are newer you can have them surfaced, but for the cost get a new one.

Look at the slider pins on the caliper and MAKE SURE that they slide easily and that you have the PROPER Synthetic High Temp Brake pin grease in the pin well and on the pin. The rubber boots also need to seal in the grease and seal out the elements. If you run the incorrect grease inside the pin wells and on the pins, it usually locks the caliper up after a while and cause what you are seeing.

If they leaked water it will RUST in place and not release.

Your brake pads can also seize in the caliper and not release when the brakes are released.

Make sure that the caliper PISTONS can be easily pressed back into the caliper. I use a big C Clamp or one of those quick clamps that you squeeze closed.

Make sure the pads are free to slide in the grove that they set in.
