Default Removal and replacement of ignition switch

1998 vert auto. I purchased a radio package from Double D Mods and will be installing soon. I have a new ignition switch that I want to install since the car will be opened up for new radio. I have a service manual and have read it but the procedure looks more complicated than I think it should be. Does anyone who has changed their ignition switch have any suggestions / shortcuts that make this job easier. Thanks in advance for any input.

The car has to be in neutral (if I remember right) to get the cable out of the back. Then it is only the electrical connections

I just did this repair a week ago. The job was made easier for me by first removing the "waterfall" , then remove the compartment cover (between the seats). There are 4 nuts that hold the compartment tray, 2 are covered by small oval plastic covers and the other 2 are below the traction control button plate. You can pop that plate with a screw driver. Once you loosen those 4 nuts you can slide the compartment back and it will make it easier to remove the console.
