Default tips for HUD install???? dash disassembly

does anyone have any tips for me on taking the car apart for the HUD install?????

I have the parts all here..........dash pad, HUD projector and 2002 guage cluster (going to take switches out of it and put in my Z06 cluster)

the HUD install tech tip is more for a pre 99 and doesnt talk about taking the dash out...

Tony:

If you go to the Vetteessentials site and look at the aluminum gauge cluster install, that will give you all the dismantling info with the exception of the dash pad. That will at least get you started until you get the final piece of the puzzle.

Cheers!

Trim Pad Replacement - IP Upper
Removal Procedure

Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
Remove the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - IP Accessory .
Remove the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Knee Bolster .
Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - IP .
Remove the windshield defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
Insert the DRL and sunload sensors, if equipped, into the nearest openings in the windshield defroster duct. Moving the sensors into the defroster duct provides additional clearance to remove the trim pad.
Remove the windshield side garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement in Stationary Windows.
Remove the screws retaining the upper trim pad to the defroster duct.
Remove the screws retaining the upper trim pad to the LH and RH hinge pillars.

Remove the screws retaining the IP cluster bezel to the upper trim pad.
Remove the screws retaining the upper trim pad to the driver knee bolster outer bracket and the center support bracket.
Remove the screw retaining the upper trim pad to the passenger SIR bracket.

Tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position.
Lift the rearward edge of the upper trim pad approximately 5 cm (2 in) to provide clearance for the air distribution duct located on the underside of the trim pad.
SLOWLY pull the upper trim pad away from the windshield while guiding the tabs on the LH and RH side of the trim pad past the hinge pillars.

Disconnect the hazard warning switch electrical connector.
Remove the upper trim pad from the vehicle.

Default Re: tips for HUD install???? dash disassembly (Ram Air Tony)

well I got it all out in about an hour and half

here are the problems as of now.....THERE ARE NO STUDS TO MOUNT THE PROJECTOR TO :cuss

looks like I am going to have to use Kent1999's method with expanding nuts to place into the cowl and hold it down with......but oh well

I took the switches out of the 02 cluster I got (regular C5 cluster) and put them in my 01 Z06 cluster, I didnt have to remove the cluster to do this, with the dash pad out, it was doable :yesnod:

I mounted the HUD projector and connected and it all works, but I have to secure it to the cowl

stay tuned, but I think I have had enough for today.....car is GUTTED

thanks

Tony,

Let me know if you need any help, I may be able to swing by and give you a hand. I have NO experience taking the dash apart (except when I put my Ripper on), but atleast I'd be an extra set of hands and eyes.

Good luck either way!!
