Aftermarket Exhaust Back Pressure
I was wondering how much back pressure should there be with an aftermarket, wheels back, exhaust system. The PO had one installed and it pops a bit when downshifting.
The car still has the H-pipe after the cats.
What could be the possible issue(s) with having a wheels back exhaust system?
Thanks.

BACK PRESSURE!
Believe it or not, your stock exhaust system isn’t really that restrictive but, there is room for improvement. Don’t purchase a CAT BACK system to make power on a mostly stock engine because the MOST that you will likely see is 5-10 hp increase.
Purchase the system to make the exhaust sound the way that you want it to. Poorly designes or system that provide the most flow possible will cause in cabin DRONE Drone sucks and will wear on you after a while. TOO many people have purchased a system without actually listening to it on the road and ended up selling it to purchase one that doesnt have drone.
The exhaust popping is pretty common on LS engines. The more performance sounding the system the more the popping is noticable. You have the same popping in the stock system but the baffling and chambering in the OEM muffler covers it up.
The H pipe on our C5s is a joke. If you cut the H pipe and examine the area where the H joins the two pipes, the hole in each primary pipe is the size of a quarter and cut with a torch so the hole isn’t even smooth.
If you purchase and install an X pipe, it will help with some of the popping and make the exhaust sound a little smoother.
You won’t have any issues with a CAT back system. It will or should not cause any emissions related issues.

Thanks for the heads up Bill.
There is no noticeable drone in the cabin while driving and the exhaust has a pleasant rumble to it during idle and acceleration. I had read somewhere that going to an X-pipe would lessen the back pressure. Are all X-pipes created equal, or is there a preferred manufacturer?
My plan this winter is to install headers to complete the exhaust system.

I have a complete Stainless Works System and the X pipe I have is excellent. As long as it is stainless steel and fits, it will work.
My system is the 3" mid and exhaust system.
The 2.5 in. system is more than adequate.
