Looking for a new one, but didn't know if there were any differences in years.

[QUOTE=LoneStarFRC;1587465682]Early versions has paper blocking rings and later versions had carbon. IIRC, they changed in either 2000 or 2001. Other than that, they were all the same.

Any issue with that?

You MUST use only the DINO ATF. No synthetic ATF fluid.. Other than miles on the box, no.
MN12 has different ratios and the gears are shotpeened for additional strength. The trans also came with a case temp probe in the fill hole.
The shifter was also solid mounted to the torque tube.

Not particularly, really. The material used in the blocker rings has not proven to be a major problem from all I've seen, and GM's decision (Tremec's actually) to change, I can only assume was to improve overall long-term durability, not because the material used in the earlier versions was "bad" necessarily. I used Amsoil synthetic in my original ('99) T56 with no problems.
Given a choice between two used transmissions that are priced approximately the same, I would of course prefer the later version however, if I were going to rebuild a used one, OR purchase a new one, the carbon blockers are going to be in the trans anyway, so.........

The M12 was a Z06-specific transmission, and in addition to the different gear ratios, and like Bill said, also came with a trans temp sensor installed in the fill-plug. Being a 2001, it of course also has carbon as well.......

For the record, MN6 denotes 6 speed vehicle. MM6 is the 97-04 ratio option and M12 is the 01-04 Z06 ratio option. You can see both on your build sticker.
These MM6 and M12 came in variety of cars including Ford, Dodge and Aston Martin.
To answer the OP, other than changing to carbon blockers in 2001, they are same.
