P/S Reservoir Under Pressure and HOT!!!
I was doing a routine underhood inspection after filling up, and when I removed the Power Steering reservoir cap an unexpected blast of hot, oily smelling air came out and the cap was almost too hot to hold...
I don't recall ever seeing this happen before - when I drove home (about 5 miles) it was the same thing all over again. Is this a sign that something is going horribly wrong? The car is a 1998 with just barley over 40k miles on it.
Coincidently, my "check engine" light came on prior to filling up (which is why I checked everything under the hood) - but no error message.
Any thoughts?
Jeff

Something sure seems to be fubar. Sounds like the cooler is not doing the job. I don't know if it is bypassed if there is blockage or not. I would doubt it. Have not looked into the PS system except for the electrical side interface with Magnasteer.
Did your steering seem "normal"?
Will look at the FSM but I am sure someone with more experience will chime in soon.
