C5 Idle problems with A\C
I’m a Newbie to posting in the forums, but I have read and learned lots about my car before posting. Thank you!
I have a 2000 C5 convertible with 70K miles
I am having idle problems when the A\C is on.
Here are the symptoms:
When cold and when at normal operating temperature, the idle with A\C is fine.
While the car is warming up, approx. between 140 – 190, the idle will drop almost to stall when the A\C is on. Turn the A\C off and the idle is fine. After the car is warm, the issue goes away.
I have done the idle re-learn procedure and it makes the problem better for a few days, then It returns.
Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Miles

I have same issue. Has stalled a few times and sometimes if I hit the gas nothing even if I go to the floor. Hit it a few times and it will get gas. only happens with a/c on. Haven't figured it out yet.

For automatics GM later went to an alternator pulley with a decoupler due to idle issues. Never heard the issue was temperature related but until the engine is up to operating temperature you might be having that issue.
Have you pulled your onboard computer DIC trouble codes to see if there might be another underlying reason?
It does not really "decouple" the alternator but settles out the impact the alternator has on the idle performance. A decoupler can be added to any C5 alternator and just replaces the "plain" pulley. It has no affect on the actual grooved pulley location.
All my info is at home which I can post later if you like.
Here is a picture of what it looks like. Looks like a cylinder just ahead of the pulley.

Thanks for the information.
I should have included in the original post: Mine is an manual transmission.
I wonder if added this to my car would solve the issue.
Also, I have looked through the codes and found nothing of importance.
I have also cleared all codes and checked after I experienced the problem and there were no codes.

That is the only mod.
This issue drives me crazy -- I feel like the car will stall, but 99% of the time, it does not.
Turn that A\C and it purrs like a kitten.

How do you do an idle relearn procedure? Ever since I disconnected my battery to reset the ac actuator gear motor, now my car idles low when ac is on where it feels as though it would stall out at times....
