HINSON Motorsports has partnered with IWIS to improve on the famous C5-R timing chain. We are proud to introduce the HINSON C7-R Timing Chain. This new release offers a seamless roller design that offers an improved contact surface on the cam and crankshaft timing gears.

The seamless roller design of the HINSON C7-R Timing Chain has been tested by an independent lab to failure. It is the strongest single roller chain available for the GM Gen 3, Gen 4, and Gen 5 GM V8 engines. It is stronger than then C5-R seamed roller version that has been popular for so many years.

The best single timing chain available for late model GM applications has arrived!



Frequently Asked Questions:

1) Will it work on my engine?
These timing chains work on all late model GM Gen 3, 4, and 5 V8 engines. This includes all LS based engines and the new C7 LT1 engine. It can be used in a 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, 6.0L, 6.2L, and 7.0L engine.

2) Does it work with my existing gears?
The HINSON C7-R timing chain is compatible with all stock length timing chain sets. It can be used with stock or aftermarket timing gears. Additional kits with adjustable gears will be coming soon from HINSON Motorsports.

3) Should I buy the C5-R or C7-R timing chain?
HINSON Motorsports will continue to offer both chains. The C5-R chain has been a foundation of many endurance and high horsepower engines for years. The new seamless C7-R timing chain takes that great history and adds additional strength. If you ask your engine builder, they will all say a seamless chain is better. Just remember that both timing chains will serve you well.

I've never heard of a C5R chain failure, what are the advantages of the C7R ?

The advantages are that the new Hinson C7-R is a seamless roller pin design where as the C5-R chain has a seam in the roller pin that holds the links together. In turn this means a stronger chain that is less likely to stretch leaving slack in the timing set. The new Hinson C7-R chain also has a larger contact are across the timing gears themselves as well. According to independent fracture testing it is the strongest single roller chain design there is on the market today.

Nice update to an excellent timing chain. I corresponded with Michael Weikert at IWIS in 2008 about the availability of a seamless chain.

For someone new, what would be the benefits for this single row timing chain compared with the double row timing chain set ups?

Unless your planning on huge horsepower numbers typically a double roller is not necessary. Double rollers were typically used due to the limitations of the single roller chains being so weak. With the C7-R chain that is not the case. it is the strongest single roller available that has been tested in high horsepower applications and because it is a seamless design it withstands the punishment without failure.
