disposal of old Differential
Hello, new to the forum.
I have a 2000 c5 Vette, I blew the diff so I ordered a new one. Coming in today, yahooo. The old one is really shot, draining the fluid showed lots of broken metal, the sounds were horrible when it drove. Question is, what do I do with the old one? Can it be sold for scrap? Take it to the dump? Just not sure what to do with parts like this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Where do you live???
I wish it were close to me because I would come get it.
There are parts in it that are worth saving regardless of its condition.
The SHIMS are hard to get and expensive.
Put it on the C5 parts for sale wanted section of the forum If you don’t want to ship it, state :: LOCAL PICK UP ONLY
Wow! What an opportunity to get good parts!
I’m first in line if you live close to Connecticut!!!

Safety Car
In my slight experience around special interest cars, sooner or later, someone will want the part, any part, if it is old enough and the cars create enough demand.
As the good poster above informed me, some parts you own are already getting hard to find. Fifty years from now, those shims will be in greater demand, plus some of the other parts might also be pushed up the food chain from scrap to rare parts.
I used to run old English beater sports cars. It was easier to get Jag parts than Triumph parts and such, because guys figured if I put that on a shelf, some Jag guy will someday cough up the money . I guess at the time, they figured guys in old Triumphs would still be mostly broke, compared to the guys looking for Jag parts.
The fact that these cars attract enough of a following, with cash, to, hopefully, sustain a long time parts supply was considered before I decided on my car. Of course, once I was confronted with a Triple black convertible in person, with the purchase money in my hot hands, rational thought didn't matter much.
To be brief, I once paid a surprising amount of money for an oil filler cap. t was from 1965 and said Jag on it, just like the one on the car that I misplaced and later found . Couldn't run the car without it, unless I went for a giant cork. The guy said he kept it because it looked cool, never expecting a person would need more than the one that came with the engine. Then he met me.

Safety Car
I tried to give my perfectly good 3.15 diff to a forum member in the Seattle area for free....it was too much of a bother for him to come get it...
Sold it at a swap meet for $100.
I'm in Portland btw.
Practically neighbors
