Who's running the MSD starter?
For those of you who are running the MSD starter (5096), did you need to use any of the supplied shims? And what year 'vette do you have it installed in?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Careful, I got yelled at by a vendor a few years ago for badmouthing MSD. I mean from their overpriced wires that more than one person has reported not clicking on securely and falling off the plug to coils that fail to the MSD 6AL that I had on my turbo eclipse that overheated while mounted in the trunk. I mean just because my own personal experience with them has been bad with every single product doesn't mean that they are all bad does it?

I had msd wires fail on me and also had a msd dis2 ignition system on my dsm that took a dump at least they refunded my money. I wont buy anything msd anymore. This is what I would look into http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...very-cool.html

Procomp is now under new management and the name has changed to Speedmaster
I'm not going to bash MSD, I've never had an issue with their stuff.
Did you change starters to gain clearance?

here is what saccitycorvette said
"I think ProComp is its own company. MSD and ProComp starters look similar but I don't think they are made by the same company. I could be wrong though.
Christian "
Did some googling and they are indeed different companies.

I had an MSD starter on my White Z with Kooks headers.
The same starter won't fit my new car with American Racing Headers.
It worked great for me though.

I have the old style starter, which is prone to breaking, and if it does it will also break the block, essentially rendering the block junk as you won't be able to bolt a starter to it (insurance companies have totaled cars for just this reason). This starter, like the new style GM starter, will not break and, thus, not break the block. This one also sounds cool.
