Just did a little research. The Procomp Electronics unit previously mentioned looks promising except why pay $170 when the manufacturer sells it for $89.99? Procomp's online store is called SpeedMaster79. If you feel the need to spend the extra $80...just send it to me I just put one in the cart and it looks like they're giving free shipping.

Their price on their OEM style starter is $62.99. Why would you want to pay $129.99 to a third party vendor for the same starter? Again...if you really feel the need to spend the extra $67 + shipping....just send it to me. I'll make good use of it

Plenty of FI guys use their head studs and never have issues... But it's frowned upon bc it's not ARP

Is the Vette starter the same dimensions as the truck/suv one? If so, I'll just switch mine with our Tahoe since it has the iron block and the 2 long bolt one.

Ever see their distributors or their copy of the MSD 6AL box?

After seeing that stuff, and what happens to it, no way will I be using one of their starters.

Probably explains the cheap price from the manufacturer.

That's actually what most folks do. In fact, everyone I know that's fixed this problem asks for a truck starter at the counter.

A 2007+ is a bit smaller as well, so before you dimple a primary... It's worth a shot.

Yeah, I was looking at that too. Might be worth getting one of the high torque models since they are smaller and I plan on some LTs shortly.

I tried Auto Zone and they have no Part # DLG89702S, they have the old design listed. What part number is the GM truck starter under and who sells a new one?

Try DLG9702S
or DLG9947S

Either will work and are the 2 long bolt design.

Both are NEW Delco Remy

Yes, they have one in stock. The Auto Zone online search function forced the old design part numbers to my saved C5, changing it to all products fixed that.

My car has very low miles and I hate to change out the starter of a reman or a costly new unit. I've been doing some research and learned there are loads of differences on these starters so I would like to keep what I have. Is there any chance someone would know how to find a PN for the drive end housing with the two long bolts. I believe the factory starter is a series 260L or 260M. 1.7 KW with a 50mm mounting pad to drive gear center distance.

Thanks for your valuable feedback dadaroo.............

For you the rest of you, I decided to modify my starter, to the two long bolt design, because of the crappy reman and import starter quality out there, as well as the fact that a new Delco unit is $200 with a core exchange. My 03 Z06 only has 10 K on it so why replace with new....After much research I learned there are several units which will bolt in place, but they have longer housings or lower cranking power. The longer housing can be a real problem for installation if you have headers as I do. The lower cranking power might not be a problem buy why over work it if you don't have to.

Luckily a local Alternator and Starter repair shop had the correct drive nose end and did the swap for $35, then I picked up a starter bolt kit for $5. If you care to do the same you will need the drive end nose from a Lester 6492. The Lester PN is a universal number, anyone that knows starters will understand what you need. I will say it was a damn tight fit with the longer bolt boss. It was a exercise in patience shoehorn that thing in there. You might not think it would make a difference, but it does.
