Need Header Advice
I am not rich and my pristine condition 2001 LS1 convertible came to be mine because my dearly departed father-in-law was a collector. I want the car to perform on a level commensurate with more modern Vettes but am on a budget. Simply put, I am willing to buy the best inexpensive parts available. Here are the modifications the LS1 will have by the time I am ready to put the headers on:
1. The intake is a dual cone model I bought to replace an older K&N model. The K&N's filter had been neglected to the point of no return and K&N, bless their hearts, replaced the element for free. The reason I went ahead and replaced the K&N is because someone put the hardware in backward causing me to buy a new used front radiator shroud that had not yet been cut. I am supplying the dual cones with fresh air by replacing the original fog light shrouds with a set that allows unrestricted air to enter the fog light openings and travel right up to the filters. Should I keep my dual cones or cut up another radiator shroud, this time with the opening cut where it will actually allow air to flow into the filter?
2. The Mass air flow sensor has been de-screened and relocated directly in front of the throttle body. Is this correct or do the MAFs work better with screens attached and located om the other side of the bridge?
3. It also has a wonderful sounding Corsa cat back exhaust to which I will add full length headers. It has been reprogrammed with a Hypertech Max.
My big question is, what is my best bet for a set of headers? I realize I may need to sacrifice some of the previous work but need to keep costs down. Who really has experience here? I need your help.

I had great experiences with XSPower headers. I installed 4 sets so far on C5s with NO problems at all.
Its a controversial subject, as the major brand names are much more expensive and almost everybody equates cost with quality. But the reality is the power difference between brands is negligible and I found the quality of the XSPower product exceeded my expectations. The sound great with my Corsa cat back system.
