If you have large hands as I do it is a real pain to remove the rear plug on the drivers side. You have to remove the hose to the brake resevoir and the thick hose to what appears to be an EGR valve. Don't even try it without a double swivel plug socket. Snap on makes a very good one that holds the plug in with a rubber insert. That plug is the only one to give me a problem. It was also difficult getting my hand in there to place the new wire. Changing plugs and wires on my car with only 8000 miles gave me a tremendous boost of SOTP power. I had alot of cuts and bruises on my hands though. I would say it took about two hours with about half of that on that one lousy elusive plug but it was worth the effort. I did use an antisieze compound on the replacement plugs and dielectric grease on the ends of the wires. See the article in tech tips and follow it to the letter.

Umm, what's the verdict on this?

Anti-seize or no? I was always told that ANYTHING getting screwed into aluminum got anti-seize.

USE IT !!!

I've heard good arguments for both using it and for not!

Use it because it's an aluminum head - and you don't them to seize in there. I have heard of this happening.. Not pretty.

Don't use it because it acts as an insulator, preventing a good ground for the plug, causing weak spark.

I decided to go with a VERY LIGHT coat on the threads.

i coat only the first 3 threads with the anti sieze, this should do a fine job of coating the threads as it threads in, but leaves the tapered base clean for a good ground. just don't slobber it all over and you'll be fine. don't want to chance them not coming out!!!.

did you reuse the stock metal heat shields? I did not, but used some 3" lengths of that alum. reflective material found in many places in the C=5 engine bay. This alum. hose material is rated to over 400 degrees. and MSD claims their thicker material can take heat.

what do you think? Bob :)

Anti-sieze applied appropriately is a must

Hey Patrick,

Let me know how it goes. I really fear the number 7 plug thing myself, as I have really large hands. I went with the Taylor wires and those Kevlar Boots since I have the TPIS headers. The boots are absolutely necessary for cars with headers and especially shortys.

To the guys that think stock wires are fine, you may want to rethink this. Replaced my plugs 2 months ago, plugged in an Autotap, showed a few misfires, I couldn't even feel while driving. Replaced my 38K old wires with Magnecor's, WOW what a difference! Noticeable improvement in throttle response, should have replaced them with the plugs! :yesnod:
