I have installed 4 Ed Curtis cams. 2 SSHT, vette and Fbody, one of his smaller cams in a GTO and the Helion in a 6.0 Fbody.

I would look for some DIY threads and take a look. I didnt find it too difficult when I did my first one 12 years ago, but that was just me.

If you have basic mechanical skills, you could tackle this project. Swapping the cam isn't that hard of a job. A bit time consuming though. If you get into pulling the heads, the project becomes much more labor intensive. Still not "hard" but lots more labor. Use this as a guide: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=1

Call your tuner, ask if they will do a base tune so you can drive it there. We have to drive 4-5 hours one way for our tuner, and have went that far untuned a few times with smaller cams and after head swaps.

Besides the cam, I had headers and exhaust installed. Don't get caught up in brand names. I know you will get a lot of opinions on this forum. I ended up with 415 rwhp, but I was after the old school cam lobe and trust me, I get a at every stop light! In my area you don't find too many Corvette owners that sound like mine.

I had talked to Texas speed about that cam it sounds great but according to Tsp with me running stock heads B&b prt exhaust and xs power 1/3 headers with off-road xpipe they thought it was to big and cause me to lose a lot of my bottom end power.

Sounds like your getting close to a CAM Selection. Choose well my friend.

REMEMBER,,,,,,,, Unless you install the host of other complementary parts, you will be less than happy with the results.

If you are going to use OEM heads and intake, you will be leaving a lot on the table.

Here are some things to consider,,,,,,,,

Once you start making more power, OTHER things will need to be improved upon. Heres the short list:

Traction will become a significant issue. Your tires will be the FUSE for preventing drive train damage. If you add stickier tires, things will start to break!

-Differential Output Shafts
-Clutch will most likely start sticking to the floor
-Torque Tube Couplers will destroy themselves
-Wheel Hop You will find the weaknesses in the drive train quickly.

Heres what I did to get to the 450 RWHP Mark

Whiplash Cam
42 lb/hr Injectors
New lifter buckets
Up-Grades timing chain
Melling HV Pol Pump
Timing Chain Dampener (your block should be drilled for adding one).
Home Ported Fast 90 Intake & Ported 90mm TB
Patriot Performance Stage 2 Heads COMPLETE
Caddy Racing Lifters
Correct length push rods Check with push rod checker for correct preload/length.
VARARAM VB2

C6 ZO6 Differential up-grade internal parts: Output shafts, Clutches, RPM Cross shaft

Clutch= SPEC Dual Disk with a TICK Master Cyl.
New Slave Cyl (properly shimmed)
New throwout brg & PilotBrg, Slave remote bleeder.

TRANSZILLA T60/60 MN12 Up-grade with hardened output shaft.

Heres some light reading on Differential Upgrades:

- C5, ragtopws6 , Upgrading your C5 rear with C6 Z06 guts, : http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-z06-guts.html

I think they gave you some great advise. Don't go too big like I did the first time - it was great for the strip but not for the street. Like has been stated previously, nobody has disliked their SSHT cam. Its great for the street, has the idle of a much bigger cam without losing bottom end.

I've been trying to decide the same thing. My 243 heads have been sitting at Advanced Induction since the beginning of January! I paid for their CNC Head porting and Cam package, new lifters, buckets, timing chain, ported oil pump, and BTR dual springs w/Ti retainers. Still need to order new pushrods but won't know what length until I start to install everything and use a rod checker. That will hold me up some but don't want to guess and end up with a loud valvetrain.
My holdup has been the cam. I am in California and need to be able to pass the sniffer. I will fail the visual portion of the inspection so hopefully I find a Mr. Magoo smog tech ; ) and my car at least passes the sniffer test!
I ended up going with a 224/224~114lsa
