This was in the rear shock. What is it?

I believe those are the shipping blocks for the magnetic ride control shocks that where supposed to be taken off before delivery. Push the boot up and remove them and see how much better it will ride.

There are many reports of dealerships not removing them before being delivered to the customer. I would check all of the other shocks while you have it in the air.

Thanks gents. I figured that's what it was, but wanted to check before I "pulled the string" lol

How many miles is on your vette?

IOW, how many miles has it been driven with something that was supposed to be removed before delivery?

Also, please report back on the change in ride.

Having those boots on the car for 10 years probably destroyed their dampening capabilities. There were issues where first time owners got their f 45 suspensions replaced for free and out of warranty because of this issue. Not sure anything could be done now after ten years.

Those only came in 2003 and 2004 C5's with F55 option. Usually the complaint is rough (harsh) ride, not spongy. Report back if they were left in all four shocks or not. Here's what they look like out:

I had the same issue with my 2004. The shipping blocks were removed in the front, but still in place in the back. The car bottomed out all the time. The car had been used like that by previous owners for something like 8 years. I guess none of them were forum members.

After I removed the shipping stops, it was like a totally different car. The shock absorbers seem to be working fine now.

Thanks for the pics of the actual blocks themselves.

Yes, car is up in the right now receiving some new Phadt headers.

My first 2004 (with f55) came to me with them in too. Really rode pretty harsh as you might imagine, having had almost no suspension travel.

Whoa! 40K, eh?

Have you had a chance to take it on a test drive?

Brakes are done.

Oil is draining now and once that change is done she's coming off the ramps and jack stands for a drive.

WOW ... guess the dealerships didn't get the per-delivery memo.

I cannot even imagine doing 40k with almost no suspension travel.
