Convert your "GM Colum Lock Recall Fix" (MN6 ONLY) to a CLB !
If you had the "GM Recall Fix" installed (6 speed tranny cars ONLY), you can easily "convert" it to
a CLB. The steering lock mechanism will be permanently disabled just like the aftermarket CLBs. The only
catch is that the colum must be able to unlock before you perform the following steps :
1) Follow the CLB install how-to links, : Remove the kneepad to get access to the Colum lock connector.
2) Start the car, make sure the colum is now unlocked.
3) Pull apart the Colum Lock actuator connector.
4) Shut the car off.
5) Replace the kneepad.
6) You now never have to worry about the colum locking up.
There should be no DIC codes, as the additional relay installed as part of the GM Recall Fix will still fool
the BCM that the colum lock is operating properly.

Hard to believe it could be so simple. This procedure then should work on all 2002 and 2003 C5s with manual transmission. I get a little nervous about pulling a connector while the engine is running but I assume this is a necessary step rather than just turning on the ignition?

That's a great tip. I just picked my car up after the recall was performed, a week long job, apparently. Will this work for sure on a '99? I never want to get stuck like that again. And if I could save $99 that would be great.

WHat if you never never had the CLB done, can you still pull apart the Colum Lock actuator connector with out and codes be set?

Why wouldn't this work on a A4? GM already fixed mine once, but it locked up again last night. I was so pissed last night I almost used my Glock on my CL!

Re: Convert your "GM Colum Lock Recall Fix" (Face)
If a dealer just "fixed" it, and you follow this procedure, you will get a DIC code and an engine safety shutdown when you try to drive the car.
If the dealer installed the "GM Colum Lock Recall fix", then this procedure (or an aftermarket CLB) is not needed, because the locking mechanism is disabled for automatic tranny cars when the dealership performed the "Recall Fix".

Will this work on a 2000 MN6 that was outside the recall VINs but recently locked column fixed by GM dealer under the Tech. Svr. Bulletin repair?
Don't want to go through locked column nightmare again.

I had a 2000 and never had a Column lock issue in 18 months.
I got the recall notice and went in for the Column Lock "fix"
Two weeks later, first Column lock problem..... tow truck required....

My 2001 MN6 is in today for this "recall" fix (it locked up over the weekend). I gave them the TSB and Recall numbers that I found on another topic - TSB: 01-02-35-008 recall: 01044A
My question now is: What is the actual fix that the dealership is going to do with it?
Does this pertain to 2001 models ?

I am not positive, but I do not think your 2001 comes under the campaign recall. I know there is another thread which lists the affected VIN #s, you could check there. If you are not under the campaign, I assume they are not required to perform the recall. They may just unlock the column and send you on your way. If so, I would scream and yell untill they did, although this also is no guarantee that it won't lock up again, mine did. You might want to give GM customer service a call, I did and they were actually a help. Good luck.

Well, I have to wait for a part to come in until tomorrow, so I guess they are doing the recall fix. :smash:
