Closing up air filter box.

Closing up air filter box.
This is embarassing. I took out my air filter to clean it and now I can't get the two tabs that secure the airbox cover in place to snap into place. It's like the bands don't have enough slack in them. I have a K&N aftermarket filter. I tried to close it up with just the filter holder put back in and I still can't get it closed up.
What the heck am I doing wrong?

Take the entire air box out of the car.
Disconnect the air accordion tube from the TB, disconnect the wires, and remove the small air tube for the A.I.R. Pump inlet hose.
The front of the box slips over two metal PINS. The pins fit in RUBBER GROMETS.
Use a long screw driver and just pop the pins out of the gromet on the box. They easily POP back in when you reinstall it.
Once the box is out, you will find the metal straps have popped off the bottom... Here is how to fix it for good:
Once you learn that you need to remove the entire box to service it, you will be a LOT happier. You can clean the front a lot easier also!

I agree,
take out the entire filter box using a long screwdriver.
You will see the 2 pins
I put Vaseline on the 2 pins
then the rubber grommets easily slide over the pins making the reinstall a snap

I just fix mine after an extra hour, just had to pull up on the air duct metal piece that has the Corvette emblem on it to align it to the box!

POP the entire air box out and then reassemble the cover and box and then put it back in place and reconnect the TB to air tube.
