Default C5 Headlight whirrrrrrring

So my left headlight was not operating at all for a few days. Then, while fussing with the winding mechanism, I got it to work but upon closing (going down) it makes a loud whirring, clicking sound for about 10 seconds.
ANyone know the fix for this ? Do I need new gears? I've read some stuff about aftermarket gears (golds?)

thanks
Jonathan

Do both while you are doing it. The other is not far behind.

Did my driver side over two years ago. Passenger side is still fine. I wouldn't make more work for yourself than needed, but that's me. When the other fails, I'll fix it.
