Default Need help identifying these wires

Good morning all, looking for some direction here. My son just moved back from Texas, and has his 2001 parked in my driveway. These wires are hanging out from under the rear bumper. Anyone have any idea what they are? I can't see where they lead to, and I haven't taken anything apart yet to try to find out.

Thanks,

Paul

Appears to be some kind of add on. Both wires seem to be the same color which is typical of a jury rig.

You could use a multimeter to see if one is powered and if one is grounded.

I would think you can find out where it goes by looking in the trunk.

I did test with a multimeter...no voltage on either wire with the car not running, lights off, etc...

Too much crap in the trunk right now to get to anything...

There is 10.55V across them when the lights are turned on...must be tapped into the rear light wiring harness...I can see the harness moving behind the license plate when I tug on these wires...

Maybe there was a light over that C5 Logo plate?

I would tape the ends (or trim the exposed leads) in the interim so you don't get a short and blow a fuse. If you need any more help later let us know.
