Maybe this is what I get for ordering cheap parts..

So I order a AC Delco water pump from rock auto and the opening for the t-stat is 0.14" smaller than the original (2003 Z) so my t-stat won't fit. I have always heard about the later vs early water pumps but have never actually seen the differences, is this what they are talking about? Is this water pump meant for a earlier or later than 2003? The original opening is 2" and new pump is 1.86"

didn;t you order the new waterneck at stat? the new delco pumps are not compatible with the old style neck and stat

Nope! Did not order that part. Rock Auto said I might have to order this part not that it was required. So what does the new delco part (15-11057) correspond to when I order thermostats in the future, ie 2004, 2005...? Or will I have to stick with the delco part for now on?

for now you need that part which is the new style neck and stat

as stated above, in the future it's 2004 for just a stat

Thanks for the clarification, went to a local parts store and they should have what I need. Got to wait a few hours for the delivery truck to drive across town and pick up my parts.
