I think that the regulators ARE still available. Check out these 2 threads below that tell you what I'm going through on this issue. Seems pretty common.
I will tell you that taking the door panel apart is pretty easy if you are patient and take your time.

They are still availble, both new OEM and reproductions as well as used. Just ordered new OEM for right and left hand sides as my right side is starting to fail. Paid less than $400 shipped for both, they include regulators and motors. Check out the auction sites.

I just replaced my 2003 regulator. I bought a used one from a Forum member for $75. It took about 1.5 hours to replace and works just fine. Rock auto also has them for $130 if you do not want used.
Do a search on regulator and there is a video on replacing it that is very good.
