Default thoughts on OBX Headers and other "budget" headers from people that are running them

Just want to know who is running OBX Headers and how do you like them? Are there any before and after dyno numbers?

I知 in the market to buy headers and XSPower is out of stock. I知 on a budget and I can get a pair of OBX headers and x-pipe for about $800 shipped?

Any other suggestions out there as far as a budget set up?
Here are my current options:

1. Wait for XS Power to have them in stock

2. Get OBX for around $800 shipped

3. Get Texas Speed Headers for around $900 shipped after taxes and shipping cost.

4. Wait around for some used LG or other high end brands to go on sale in the used section for under $1000.

You get what you pay for.

Never heard anything good on obx.

I don't have first hand experience, but lots of people seem to be happy with XS Power headers.

Another vote for XSPower. Easy to install, great fit, great rep in John here on the forum, have had mine over a year with ZERO issues. They make good power and liven up the sound of my Z06 ti catback.

I just ordered the TSP with their 3" off-road X-pipe...they have a sale going right now, and I think the total after taxes with shipping was $820. Just FYI...

I purchased the OBX a few yrs go and let me see if I can remember what all I had to do.

sand/file the flanges to get them flat so they would seal to the heads
beat/bend one tube because it was hitting the bellhousing
use a pry bar on one side to pull it down to line up with the other side
scrap the clamps and weld up all the fittings
scrap the springs and bolts supplied to bolt up the collector flanges

This was a lot of work and head ack but I did save some money.

Would I do it again? NO

i think the thing with OBX is that they're a gamble. who knows how they're produced, after all.

that said, I'm on year 3 with my OBX's and they're holding up just fine. they had a bracket on them that's apparently for bolting up to the body of the car that was so far off i just left it out and didnt even bother. hasnt been an issue in 3 years, multiple HPDEs, tons of straight line shots, etc.

depends on what that $800 difference is to you. you get a handful more hp from the higher end ones, and better fitment, but lose a few bills. your call.

As mentioned earlier, OBX are a gamble. If it were significantly cheaper than other options (as is the case for some other cars), it's a gamble I'd be willing to make. At $100 difference versus TSP, I wouldn't bother with the hassle.

i put on a set of the TSP ones a few years ago. It was the ceramic coated mild steel ones. They fit right up and made really good power after a tune but the AC drips right on the collector so a good layer of rust has formed and when i had a shop do my head and cam swap they had to use an air chisel to get the headers to separate from the X pipe because they had rusted together. Car is in storage now but when i get back from korea I am putting on a set of XS power ones.

Default vote for xs power

I have XS Power and have been happy with them for almost 2 years now. But to be fair these are the only headers I have ever ran on a C5. Maybe someone who has ran different types could give you a unbiased opinion.

I got the first set of XS Power headers shipped, and beat the hell out of my car. Running heads/cam with these headers and they have been great. If I had to do it again I would, screw paying double for another brand.

thanks for the replies, OBX is out the window now.

I have found a set of dinged up/used LGs with X-Pipe for $500 plus shipping. I'm getting shipping quote and as soon as I get that I will be buying them.

I'd try to get a set of high end used ones, and failing that, get TSP or XSP.

That sounds like a better idea. I don't know if OBX changed their design but at one time, they were using smaller diameter tubing in their headers which could potentially limit gains on more highly modified cars.

TSP is now making their LTs in stainless, priced very well.

I have OBX DO NOT BUY THEM. Thin wall thickness makes the valve train sound like a sewing machine under the hood. Spend
