Default best upgrade to start with...

2000 C5, 6-speed, base coop.

Eventual I want 700hp... I may sell my Camaro to pay for a twin turbo set up.
May wait till I save up the cash. Either way I bought this car to run twin turbos on.

It has a K&N cold air intake.
It has Bola exhaust, which I don't like.

I am thinking a tuner would be the next thing to get.
Is there a tuner that I can use now and again after it is boosted?

Is there some other mod you all recommend.
Perhaps an intake, larger fuel injectors or 1.8 roller rockers.
I don't want to get inside the engine yet. Only has 60k miles.
Not ready to do a cam, hense the 1.8 rockers.
Not ready for new heads...

Headers are fine if that is what you all think it needs.

1) how some REALLY deep pockets with T/turbo,s
2) stay away from the 1.8 rockers
3) only need ls6 or ls2 intake
4) good set of headers
5) look at a A/A F/I or ESC set up for the power to money ratio.
then still have deep pockets.

I expect 10k for the twin turbos. I have a friend who builds turbo set ups for a living.
mostly WRX/STI's but he has done 3 C5 Vets.

what does A/A F/I or ESC mean?

factory LS6 intake or aftermarket?

I have been reading about the swap... why not just buy an aftermarket intake?

Research here will show that those intakes metal intakes dont always seal as well as they should. The LS6 is a good easy swap for higher rpm breathing. You dont need larger injectors unless you are planning on a head/cam swap. My 00 MN6 with the LS6 intake and headers and a mail in tune by ECS dynoed t 330 at the wheel. You can also install a vararam which by all reports wont give my dyno improvement but will work wonders while moving. If you are going to use an aftermarket intake, go with the FAST.

so you guys think I should leave it alone and save up for the supercharger or turbo?

Seems to run the LS6 intake it needs a tune. So, that takes me back to my original
thought of getting an hp tuner, then an intake. Doesn't do much good to get the intake
before the tuner.

I do like the hp gains from an intake. Wish they were a little less money.

So I need the hp tuner... $500
Then the FAST intake for $900
Fast 120mm throttle body - $500

will I need anything else with those items?

Summit makes it sound like it wont. I dont want to change the hood.

Save your $$ for later, 700HP will cost a LOT of $$$$. Not only engine but trans and suspension (not to mention-LOTS OF TIRES).

Was hopping to start collecting the parts.
I would use all these parts with supercharge or turbo and they make the car
more fun to drive, while I find a buyer for my Camaro.

Tranny will be fine, just need C7 clutch.
Tires are fine, just don't burn them off, slicks off my Camaro will fit.
shocks and sway bars are all the suspension upgrades I will need.
You forgot better breaks, those will be done later.

You wont damage components if you don't get any traction... and you don't drive stupid.
My car is a weekend warrior and I am not afraid to admit it. This is in no way a daily.

I'm not worried about 10k for parts. I bought this car for one reason.
It is the best base to get a 700+ hp street car.

I have a 500hp, bagged 79 C10, a 500 hp 78 Camaro,
A slammed Dually (bags in garage just not insatlled), and a few daily drivers.

I am a L98 pro... first LS.. so I am trying to learn from you guys.

---------------------

I would like to hear what set ups a few of you all are running and not have you try to talk
me out of building a 700hp car. Its not like I am going for 1400hp... it can be done.
I have seen C5's with over 1300hp. That is a lot more then I feel I need.

I feel my vet should be quicker then my C10 and my Camaro. That isn't the case.

Well, you can break a lot with no traction, especially if you wheel hop even with stock HP. Have you ever driven a 700hp car (or even a 500hp one)?

Well, generally when you get into high horsepower Forced Induction applications you need stronger internals (forged parts) as well as lower compression pistons. A better cooling system, better trans and clutch (the stocker will not handle 700hp). Many use a rear trans axle brace to keep the rear from breaking in case you do wheel hop. Several other engine parts like injectors, headers, bigger fuel pump, several dyno tunes probably. Bet $10K won't cover all the goodies.

You are almost always better to find a car close to what you want that someone else flushed a ton of money into and is taking the giant loss, they are fairly common.
For instance:

never liked someone else's mess.
I prefer to do it right the first time. Just personal preference.

I am so surprised at how little support I am getting here.
You all never even told me that intake would fit under the hood.

Why is it so hard to think I could build a 700hp vet. I thought it was rather common.
I will just go to denver and talk to the shop there. I prefer to do my home work first.
and get outside input. Since you all just say not to do it, own a slow car
let the big boys have the fast cars... I will find some where else to get my answers.

Sorry, but 350hp is crap... my C10 has more then then that...

If I wanted 350 hp I would have kept the C4 and the LT1.

You all do realize at a drag strip a C5 Covette will get is *** handed to it.
There are not powerful from chevy.

Nobody told you not to do it, just be prepared, that kind of HP BREAKS THINGS EASILY. You just can't slap twin turbos on and go at it. Go read in the Forced Induction section for a while before you jump in head first.

Nothing worse than dropping a bunch of $$$ only to break things the 1st or 2nd time out. There is an outhit called STS that has a twin turbo setup already engineered for the C5 with the Turbos replacing the mufflers out back. You might want to check them out.

I am not jumping blind. Spent 3 years looking into this and
bought this car with the intention of putting another $20k into it.

I am not some 18 year old who has never had a fast car.
I am 35, I have a 500 hp Camaro that runs 12.
I am fully away of the other stuff I will have to upgrade.

I just dont see how that is relevant to asking about the intake and tuner.
I did not want to get into what all it takes to build 700hp. that is to much for one thread.

I just wanted info about the intake...

Im just curious why you are putting 20K into a 15K dollar car?

People with stock C5s are running 12s.

Probably get a C6 Z06 for $35K these days and have 500+ hp to start with.

I want a framed dyno sheet showing 750hp.
I dont want 12's I can already do that. I want 9's

Anyone can buy a $100k car and go fast.
Very few can build that same car from the ground up.

And a $35k 500hp C6 is basically the same base engine and is a
waste of the additional $10k.

Again, I don't want 500hp I have that.

My cars are toy not investments.
I never get back what I put into a car.
I seldom sell them because of this.

Any real gear head will understand the love of building a car and not buying it.
