Default 11:1 Compression What Fuel?

What fuel would you need for an 11:1 compression crate EFI motor?

I have the same CR...I run 93 with no issues. Just make sure you get a reasonably conservative tune.

For CT area tuners, I would recommend Mike Levesque, owner of J&M Motorsports. He's located on Broad Street in Manchester.

$$$$$EXPENSIVE FUEL$$$$$

I would say at a minimum in the summer, 93 Octane. In the winter, you could get away with mid premium.

To insure that you know the real answer, your are going to have to data log and see if you have any incurable KR under heavy loads and WOT.

If you run 92 Octane, Consider Meth Injection to keep the KR in-check. With the right tuning, you should be good to go. Who will be tuning the engine??

Very true, Bill...especially up your way. I remember the high gas prices quite well. Much cheaper down here in SC....

The engine comes with a ECM tuned by the builder but I will keep your recommendations in mind for a double check!

Keep in mind that your going to have a very modded C5 and LS engine. The tune that they provide is basically a mail order tune. With 11:1 compression,, it will be to your advantage to complete your engine and mod install and then have the engine tuned in the most severe driving conditions that you will subject the car to (ie 90 degree 90% humidity track day at Epping NH!)

The tune that they give you is a very good starting point!

In other words bring it to J&M or Westchester to make sure its tuned properly in my final configuration! Anybody have experience w/ Corvette Center in Newington?

my compress comes in right under 11.5:1 and I run 93 on motor, 100 on nitrous. this is on a forged bottom end.

EXACTLY! Pick the tuner that you desire but,, get the car retuned ON THE STREET, so that it is tuned to real time conditions!

I have an excellent relation with Chuck at Corvettes of Westchester and he does an excellent job. If I think that theres an issue with the tune,, he rechecks it without question.

One of the best customer based Tuners that Ive found so far!

The main goal is to get a finial build tune!

If you want it tuned correctly www.slowhawkperformance.com

step over to the ls1tech site for some background on the above tuners, you'll get a good idea in what area each one does well in.

Use the C5 F/I section and see how the results are for another comparison.

Are you asking what fuel the stock GM C5 Z06 uses? stock LS6 compression is 10.9:1

Here in Cali, 91 octane is the highest at the pump. Guys here build 11:1 engines all the time and do not have trouble. Maybe on the strip in the summer time it would be a good idea to add a booster, but other than that, the engine will do fine. If you live where the fuel is 92 or 93, you are in great shape.

I replied to your other thread about the swapped FRC. I have 11.7:1 and I'm running 91 octane. AFRs are at 13.3 with no knock, a bit lean, but my tuner is comfortable with what he saw through the tuning process.

I'm very surprised no one has commented on the difference between static and dynamic compression and which one really effects the fuel you can use. To the OP do a little research on them both and educate yourself first.

Not sure how many people actually know about SCR and DCR. I know I didn't!
I ran a quick search and found this: http://www.empirenet.com/pkelley2/DynamicCR.html

I scanned through it...gonna have to go back and thoroughly read it. It has download links for a Visual Basic program to do the DCR calculations. I'm going to try it out later and see what I come up with.
Thanks for giving me something to do on a rainy day!!

That is a VERY good article. I'm not super knowledgable by any means but I was lucky enough to run across a good thread about this on LS1 tech. Just do a quick google search of dynamic compression pump gas ls1 and there is some decent reading.
