(Oct.2012) Tremec T56 tag and VIN identification(VIN is stamped onto mid case).......

ON THE TRANS YOU WILL FIND THE LAST "9" DIGITS OF THE VIN two 'casting boxes' up from TREMEC on the LHS side of the case:
035135317
Noting this is the last 9 digits of the VIN, the 10th digit is "3", which is the the model year, 2003
Also note the late VIN '35317' most of the '98up C5 production was in the 30-35,000 unit range, the late 35317 will give you an indication of the month, with 35,xxx units built for MY2003, no doubt this is in a June2003 built Corvette.......of course the Tremec tag may be a bit earlier when the transmission was actually assembled
Some further basic breakdown of the full VIN
17 digits in a VIN, the 10th digit will get you the year(model year), go backwards from 17
example:
1G1YY12S035135317 this is my current daily driver Z06
8th digit is "S", LS6 motor
10th digit is "3" MY(model year) 2003
35317 is the build number(built mid June 2003)

I'll add some pics of the VIN etchings soon
1. Also note the 97/8 T56's will have BorgWarner cast into the cases
2. Not sure if Tremec bought BW in '98 or the rights to produce the T56?
3. ALL C5 T56's will have 26spline input shafts and 27 spline output shafts
4. Z06 trans will have a temp sensor as the "FILL" plug
4a. Z06 ratios are unique in all but 4th gear,
