Default Oil Additive for lifter noise

I've been getting a ticking lifter noise around and past 2k rpms. Wondering if anyone has had this issue on high milage ls1. I am running 10w 30 Mobil 1 synthetic. At idle hot or cold there is no lifter noise.

Has anyone addded an additive like amsoil and what have been your results?

Thanks!

Change your oil to valvoline or penzoil racing. And change it every 3000 miles. Quieted mine right down. I'm still running 5w30 and have 99k on the clock. Opps i have no cats

Don't put non-detergent racing oil in your car unless you've removed the cats. Those oils have higher zinc content and will ruin your emissions.

What's your oil pressure like when you're up over 2000rpms and the lifters are making noise?

You would be waisting your time and money. It's time to do some basic troubleshooting and determine what is causing your valve train noise.

Not sure of the method, but I found a guy on youtube who had the same problem with a stock pickup and 5.3 motor. Your call on whether to take this approach: Link

Thanks for the advice guys,

Basically i have stock cats so i guess the racing oil is out of the question. Pressure is good 35-40 idle warm and 48 @ 2,000 rpms

Ive tried 0w 30 mobil 1 and the stock 10w 30 and even ive tried adding the red cap one which is 15w -50.

I really dont want to pull the heads off on this old engine and diagnose it properly.

There's been a discussion of "noises" vs. engine oils here in the C-5 tech section in the past. I've been using mostly Mobil1 in my C-5 since it was new. lately, however, I've put Pennzoil Platinum in it, and the engine exhibits less of the "clicky" valve train noise, than when it has Mobil in it. This certainly isn't a scientific deal, backed with Db measurements, but I'm not the only one who's tried the Pennzoil and noticed the difference...
