WHAT SHOULD I DO?? MTI 422 or S/C 383??
OK here is what i got. I can do a 383 Stroker with an ATI where i am gonn run 8.5:1 comp with 15 lbs of boost. I am also getting everything to accompany it. Gears, wheels, paint, Cage , Clutch, u name it. Or i can send it to MTI and have them do the 422 Package. I only have 20k to play with but i am leaning more towards the 383 S/C combo. I can make more HP and it will be more of a custome job. Let me know what ya think?

s?C 383 will make way more HP but may be less relaible with no warranty.
Depends what you want. Don't ask us.
Oh, I would go for MTI, I like saying I am NA. ;)

422 with Nitrous?
15# is probably looking for problems. I wouldn't go past 12#. Aluminum head issues with lifting under boost.
If you are happy with 10-12# maybe the 383 would do.
If you don't want to learn how to keep your car in constant tune go for the 422. If you are ok with that, then go FI.

No way would I boost a 383 stroker. If you go that route go the 382-388 all bore route, and boost it. You will have more power and accelleration in the end and a much more reliable motor.

A naturally aspirated engine is the one that will get the envy, anyone can slap on a S/C or turbo or nitrous and make power. But that just comes with issues. Heat buildup, boost delay, bottle low, lubrication. I think the MTI 422 or a 427 would make me the fat cat with the fat motor, you can always add S/C later on with a few changes. But everyone has their preferences. Mine is an ARE 427 with a roots types blower with butterfly intake through a huge hoodscoop. I must be getting sleepy....

I think the 422 with your exhaust would sound wicked... it would make the local ricers run for their lives. :)

I would go for MTI 422. Nothing better than having NA 500 rwhp with a warranty :yesnod:
If you insist on going the FI route, go for LPE TT 550 package :chevy
Both tuners have quality work with a warranty for the peace of mind

Re: WHAT SHOULD I DO?? MTI 422 or S/C 383?? (IH8PONYS)
Thanks guys for the comments. The only thing is that I only have 20k The 383 S/C combo leaves me $$$ to get my car painted and some new wheels. The mti is 20K already with no paint, rotors, gears, cage, and wheels. That's the only reason I lean more towards the other route. It gives me X-tra $$ to play with :D I would love the 422, but i really want more than 500-530 rwhp and and with a limited budget, that is hard to do. :cry :( But thanks For the Great responses everyone, i will let u know my decision. P.s the 427 stroker Fell through, the guy that was going to build it DIED. Can u believe that. :cry :( :mad

I would do an S/C all bore as suggested above, this is my route when I blow my motor. I have ridden in an MMS 427 and an MTI 422, those motors are beautiful man. They pull so freakin hard through second. But bottom line is a S/C is less money and will give you more. If you go with a forged piston (ROSS) that is all you really need to run on a 350 (the crank and rods are strong enough). Make it recessed to drop your CR to 9:1 and run 12-14 lbs, use ARE's head bolts and gasket combo. Wade's car has not been blowing Head Gaskets on a 200 shot of NOS where the C/R is probably hitting between 16-20 all at once. So I wouldn't think that the heads would float with a low compression motor running 12-14 lbs of boost. But what the hell do I know, I won't know for sure until I try it..thats all I can really say the rest is just theory, conversation, speculation and hopefully a little luck.

I think going the natural route with the 422ci would be much better, especially with your budget. I think you would be very suprised with how quickly 20K will go when you get a 382ci stroker long block, an ATI D1SC kit, more powerful fuel system, and some sort of a belt system that will hold that much power.
I haven't heard many success stories about anyone getting away without major belt slippage while running an ATI on a built increased displacement forced induction motor.
Stay natural and throw a 150 shot of nitrous on it if you really need to make 650rwhp!
:D

MTI 422 hands down!
On the surface you would think it would be cheaper, but I'm betting with Matt on the belt slippage + tuning headaches.
The 422 with a warranty and no tuning/mechanical headaches is the way to go.

hmmmmm............427 short block $9000+ ATI ProCharger $5500-6000 to your door. (427) 480-520 RWHP 480-520 RWTQ, ATI S/C 480-600 RWHP 480-520 RWTQ (depending on other mods). Costs difference taking minimum stroker short block price and maximum S/C price is $3000. but could easily go to $6000! For that much money I could deal with a few headaches. Don't ge me wrong I put off the S/C to save for a 427 but for the price I have to give it a shot and see whats up. There seems to be quite a few people running them. I know what the strokers feel like...they are awesome without a doubt in my mind.

I have to agree with MattG....that 20k is going to be eaten up quicker than you think. I would go with the 422 and add nitrous. You can keep saving and add rims, brakes and paint later. Get the motor set up the way you want and the rest will come!! :)

Re: WHAT SHOULD I DO?? MTI 422 or S/C 383?? (IH8PONYS)
Thanks again for the comments. I think however i am gonna go with the 383 S/C. I would love the 422, but i want other things too. :( The stroker is going to be built for me by a man that used to build engines for NHRA i cannot say his name. He is also building my cage. everything has been priced already and is going to be paied for Labor ect. I will not use Nitrous, I have been there done that for Two years, I could not stand it. nos is just not a route i wanna take anymore. Thanks for everything ill let u know how it turns out. :D U NEVER KNOW THOUGH :jester :jester
