I have had some starting problems and decided it would be cheap insurance to replace my 10-year old C5 starter.

I was looking at the MSD Dynaforce starters, not because I need the extra torque, but because I am looking for the best quality replacement for the stock starter.

Does anyone have any experience with the MSD starters? Anybody have suggestions for the best replacement for the stock starter on a basically stock LS1?

Best quality replacement is AC Delco OE unit 323-1450, exact same new unit used by factory. An MSD will not exceed the performance of this unit. AC Delco reman unit 336-1922A is more affordable reman unit.
Bosch also makes a brand new unir SR8581N.

If you have 10 years on the original stock starter - I consider than pretty damn reliable. Do you plan on keeping the car another 10 years? A stock starter will get you there. Replace it again and you're good for 30 years.

I know the stock starters in these (and probably most modern cars these days) are pretty good, but I imagine that there are better starters aftermarket other than just more torque. Surely someone out there has some experience with other starters?

The stock GM starter turns my 427 over just fine.

Thanks for the feedback. Now that I decided to keep my 120K C5 as my daily driver for the next 4-5 years, I just wanted to make sure that it stays dependable, so I am looking at replacing the parts most likely to leave me on the side of the road.

Since Bill Curlee pointed out that the solenoid might be the culprit of my recent starting gremblin, I figured it was probably a good idea to replace the stater at the same time. I thought that an aftermarket starter would be the best choice for quality, but the consensus seems to be the the factory starter is about as good as it gets for a basically stock LS1.

Stock or modified, it's a no brainer. I'm confused at the questions though. 10 years, and 120K miles.......and you're disappointed with the quality?
