OK.........I'm thinking that there is a transmission cooler in the radiator. Right or Wrong? ( probably wrong is my guess ) I'm thinking this because when I installed the headers I saw two lines that snake up around the area where the starter is.

At Beach Bend this past week-end I saw, for the first time, a warning on the DIC that said high transmission fluid temp. So naturally I'm concerned. I'm thinking of getting this cooler below. What are your thoughts? Could this be mounted in the rear? I saw a cooler installed in the rear at Mallett's shop and it looked :cool: there. Just looking for input, suggestions, etc.

Save the hassle of installation and just get a deeper trans pan..holds 2 xtra quarts and does the job!:D

Vstella, you keep talking about this trans pan but does it have the fill plug at the right level for filling the A4 trans. Also, this might do for just mild drag racing, but not for taking the car on a road coarse. Where did you get the deeper trans pan?

Is it me or the 2000 C5 just doesn't have a tranny temp gauge in the DIC?

Only the Z06 has the tranny temp gauge.

Wish I had one.

Oh...........Buckmaster must have installed his own custom tranny temp gauge, because his car is a 2001 coupe (according to his sig.).

I may be too tired and simply have missed it, but A4 or MN6?

The A4 does have a cooling section in the stock radiator, which is not enough cooling under track use. MN6 does not.

I'm wary about the actual cooling surface of the pictured cooler. B&M makes a frame rail cooler that's similar to a normal tube and fin cooler, just formed in a long narrow rectangle, Summit has it, that may work better. On my A4, I put in a Derale tranny cooler put in series with the stock radiator cooler lines. To add a cooler to an MN6 requires adding the plumbing and a pump. A4 is already set up pretty well.

We use a Flexlite #4120 20,000 GVW trans coolers. They run about $50 to $55. Take about a hour to install, it goes in front of your condenser. Have installed on Vettes with 3200 stalls and it works awesome.

So far, my tranny cooler holds the temp of the fluid below 185 degrees. With it, I have not done any drives longer than 45 minutes at highway speeds, but the cooler I have probably lowered the temp 10-15 degrees minimum. Before the cooler install, the temp got to 195 and was still slowly rising. The air temp is now in the middle to upper 80's here in Dallas area now, so I will be interested in seeing what it holds it to.

I have mine mounted on the shroud, offset an inch from it.

All, Remember that you can over size your trans fluid cooling system which also has a detramental effect. If you look on the perma cool web site, they
have a 90/10 bypass valve that allows the fluid to heat up to normal temps
and only opens completely when the temps go up. There is also a great deal of good information on their site. Mike

I installed two B&M race coolers in the areas around the running lights. I used my Roto tool to clear away most of the plastic. I then covered the area with Z06 screens. I ran stainless hose and AN fittings to tap into the metal lines coming out of the radiator. One cooler is trans the other oil. I did not want to block off any flow to my radiator. The trans cooler was simple, the oil cooler was a bit more challenging due to the low clearance when using oil filter relocation. I found a nice billet piece with side ½ “ in and out. I mounted the filter up at the shroud. Nice thing with AN fittings, started it up and not a drip. My trans now runs between 180 and 200. I used an oil thermostat to cool the oil only after it reaches 180 degrees, like the one mentioned already, 90 percent 10 percent until it reaches 180. The thermostat came from B&M and the billet pieces came from Canton. I just finished the oil cooler this weekend and have not driven enough to know how cool it’s going to run. I have not gone past 200 yet. I have pictures if anyone is interested.

Hey...that means my guess is correct. Only 2001 and newer has tranny temperature gauge. Mine is a 2000 coupe and it doesn't have it.
