My Swiss cheese airbox mod...
I know it is not a new or brilliant idea but I just wanted some new opinions on which do you think will let in more air...the top pic of a stock Z06 lid or my modified stock air box lid?...(I call it the Swiss cheese mod)
I already know it will not make much of a difference in performance but I just want opinions...if you have seen a post similar to this one and are tired of the dumb question I have posed then please just ignore it and go away
BTW...if it even matters...the Z06 lid has about 7 square inches of opening...my Swiss cheese mod air lid has about 32 square inches of opening...

:bb...actually I was thrilled when you sent me pics of your engineering but I had to face reality ...I'm not that talented as to do what you did and I thought about it more and more and just started drilling holes and noticed that the holes seemed to open up more open space and still keep the original shell...you need a patent(sp?) on what you did

I just replaced my stock lid with the Z06 lid. I was going to cut my stock lid but I read somewhere that getting the filter wet could be a problem. Even the Z06 lid design would seem to let water from the hood area bypass the opening. Something to consider.

Here...thanks to hotwheels57...look at his little engineering marvel...I didn't think I could do this very well so I just did my little
Swiss cheese thing...credit goes to hotwheels57 here though...Look>>>
Thats what I'm talkin about...I think I have more air flow but this one is pretty
I'm thinking that the screen itself cuts about 45% of the air flow from the cut out area???

There's a point here, which I think you're missing.....
The GM engineers spent a lot of time developing an air intake system that will filter the air, repel a normal amount of water, and still allow an LS1 engine to develop 345-350 horsepower. This, for the most part, allows a fairly light car like a Corvette to accelerate pretty damned fast. The additional 5-6 HP that might be generated at wide open throttle by a modified air intake, most likely would not be noticed by the "seat of the pants" dyno. Furthermore, unless on a race track, how often are you at WOT?
I believe that possibly "Doug" was alluding to this......

You forgot to add "Noise"...a prime design feature of all stock intakes. You may get a little more pleasant to gear heads intake noise with the swiss cheese mod.

OK, the bottom picture will allow more exposure to air, but your filter size is still restrictive. You allowed your vette to breath easier but you really haven't increased the air flow until you give it more air surface. Look at the size of the Honkers, the duel cones if flaten out they have more air space to suck in more air..
For those who want to keep that stock look, your idea is great. I did the same, but I noticed no gain. After installing the Duel Cone and cutting holes in the fog housing did I see and feel more power.. (it opened up on the freeway and didn't have that "I need more air feel and sound").
